It would have to have at least £8K off for me to buy one as a new model is released this year.

What xtrailman said.  The new car is based on the MQB platform and does appear to be shrunken Touareg in looks.  We have moved from a Land Rover Defender to an Audi Q3 quattro 184 DSG which is closely related to the Tiguan you are looking at.  First impressions
are that it's a very impressive towcar.

We had a 140 DSG for three years, the only very minor fault was the fuel flap refused to open and required adjustment under warranty. I always felt it was better when towing than solo as the caravan damped the rather harsh suspension. Plenty of oomph
no problem up and down the A75 in France. DSG worked fine, now have a torque converter now which is a bit more positive, the Tiguan could be a bit sluggish at the off due to the gearbox  and I found the sound of the box changing gear could be like that of
a manual clutch slipping. Turning circle is not particularily good but not a problem. I would`nt hesitate to recommend one as a towcar, no doubt you are aware new model due soon. MPG around 28/30 towing and high 40`s solo. Spacesaver Spare, boots not expansive
but we found it adequate for two. My main recommendation is check you find the suspension set up is to your liking.

Forgot to clarify it is used, 3 years old, with heated leather, panoramic roof, some other gadgets and 18k miles. I don't buy new, might as well burn a pile of £TenNers. I would have preferred a Q5 but the nose weight limit is only 80kg's whereas the Tiguan
is 100. The Q5 however owes more to the previous generation A4 than the MQB range, unfortunately the Q3 as much as I like any Audi is too light for a sensible weight match, and a touch small For our needs. The only drawback of the Tiguan is I had an aspiration
to have a Quattro car towing my Quattro caravan! I have had a Seat in the past with DSG and am sold on it, I am sure Mollies parent will be pleased I will soon be an auto convert even if it isn't a torque slushmatic box.

You know it makes sense Cool ..... I can only base my preference of torque converter over automated manual on a few days with a VW DSG courtesy
car and my Smart Roadster Wink

To add to my conundrum I have now found a Passat Alltrack (my second choice after an Audi - Tiguan is 3rd) with my required spec at similar money. Only problem it is 200 miles away, the Tiguan is local.....

If you want the Passat, go for it, otherwise it'll always niggle away at you that you should have bought it. 200 miles is only a few hours on the train Cool I
once travelled to Bournemouth to collect a none runner Astra & brought it back on an A frame.

Bit confused by your comments that the Q3 is a bit lightweight?  Tiguan and Q3 Kerb weights should be almost identical.  Our Q3 has 1700kgs.  Yes tI'd agree hey probably are less spacious inside .

Just to add the Q5 NW was increased to 100kg some years ago.

According to the data checks I have used the Q3 comes in around 1600kg's and nose weight is 80, too light for me. The age of Q5 I can afford is also still showing 80kg noseweight so unless it was raised retrospectively is too low To give any margin on a
1600kg van. I once bought a C5 estate 'blind' from Glasgow, drove up in the morning, drove home in the afternoon.

Yes, it appears the Q5 noseweight was increased to 100kg's, which also once again shows the CC matching service is totally unreliable and misleading. now that opens up a whole new direction..... So Tiguan is out, Alltrack or Q5.....

We just sold a 177ps DSG Tiguan and must say it was the best tow car we ever had.  Pulled like a train, gearbox smooth as anything and economical if you were not too heavy on the right foot.  Went like a bomb solo and very economical, only minor thing was
when moving slowly to  a junction or roundablout and you wanted to move it would sometimes take a millisecond or 2 to decide what gear it wanted to be in but overall woudl highly recomend it.

PS we had Freelanders before and the Tiguan was much better all round.

Just sold my Tiguan for an brand new Alltrack. Plenty of offers on the Tig but with the new one coming out soon I wasn't tempted but the Alltrack is superb. Less than 200 miles on the clock and 34mpg towing.

Bought my 2014 2.0 DSG Tig Auto specifically to tow my Lunar Fereelander. It is a breeze, tows dead easy, superb gearbox, and is nice to drive on it's own, thoroughly recommended!
