Towing with the new Honda CRV1.6 diesel
Hi looking for feedback on the new Honda CRV 1.6 Diesel as a towcar.
We've had 3 perfect examples of the 2.2 I-DTEC, and are wondering if the new 1.6 has the same power/torque characteristics; or does it run out of puff.
Our van has an MTPLM of 1575Kg
Any feedback would dbe most useful. or is there a similar 4x4 (Kia/Huyndai)

Max towing weight is 2000 kgs for Diesel Manual, I think the 9 speed auto is 1500 kgs. I think the kerbweight is circa 1630 Kgs.

The Mazda CX5 is a similar size and has much better reviews solo and towing. You could also look at a KIA Sportage or Hyundai Tucson. Both good cars but smallish boots. Going bigger there are the KIA Sorento and Hyundai Santra Fe. Excellent tow cars and
both with long warranties.0 -

The Tucson boot is actually bigger, just. And also contains a very nice full sized alloy inside.
The 182bhp engine also has more torque lower down than a 175ps cx-5, just, but the cx-5 has more torque higher up the rev range.
Tucson is however heavier by about 50kg for the trim i was looking at, with poor emissions and uses more fuel, and is no longer cheap.
But its a very good car to drive, with a long warranty. I haven't test drove the kia as i find it very ugly to look at.

Kia and Hyundai have definitely gone upmarket. I have just changed my CX5 for a Sorento (I need the weight as I intend to get a heavier van when I change this year) and am very impressed. The long warranty and full sized spare are a definite bonus. It is
a very stable tow car.I had assumed that the Tucson and Sportage were the same dimensions. My mistake!

We have just purchased a new 1.6 honda we had a 1535kg caravan and just downsized as car not recommended for caravan very disappointed with car at the moment only had for 3 weeks hope things improve new caravan 1295 very disappointing towing fuel figures
hope it improves as car settles in. Certainly don't think it would be suitable for your caravan loved the 2.2 engine0 -
Hard to see how a 1.6 engine could ever match a 2.2 engine for towing.
Another example of the trend towards smaller engines. Volvo have reduced from 2.5 litre with 5 cylinders to 2 litre and 4 cylinders.
Lower emissions and higher mpg is their only concern these days. Laudable maybe, but not good news for caravan owners.
