Which tow bar?

I have just changed my vehicle to an immaculate low mileage 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 Diesel that has everything except a tow bar! I have priced a the fitting of a Witter Tow Bar with dedicated wiring, but this is approximately £180 more expensive than
another locally fitted tow bar. That said, the cheaper one has the cheaper generic wiring. Is it worth paying so much more for the dedicated wiring?

    On a modern car would think it essential to have a dedictaed wiring.  This will ensure all indicator/bulb failures etc are shown and that your fridge works on the move.  Just check to ensure the locally fitted one does not have a dedicated wiring - most
    do (mine did).

    As Comeyras states best to have the deidicated wiring as there are issues with LED bulbs, reversing sensors and other warning lights. There have been posts in the past where some have had to have the car's ECU set which might be a cost saved by going 'dedicated'
    Hopefully there will be people on here with the same Outlander who can be more vehicle specific.

    I would be wary of the generic wiring unless you know who makes it. Copies of anything can be at best dangerous and your licence and property are at risk if it goes wrong.

    The tow bar has to comply with regulations and be stamped with confirmation. If it is not correct you could be prosecuted and uninsured. Make absolutely sure you are happy with what you are being offered. Personally I would take the Witter but I did get
    two quotes for ours and therewas quite a difference on the same thing from two approved firms.

    Before committing yourself to a Witter, have a good look at a Tow Trust towbar, IMO they are as good, if not better.
