I have had five 2.2 diesel manual CRV's  and have found them wonrderful tow cars for towing my Coachman Amara 520/4, and am looking to trade my current 2.2 for new 1.6, but i'm very concerned that it is up to the job.

Does anybody have any experiance of towing a 1500kg van with new range CRV 1.6 manual ?

The review I read of the latest CRV made some comment about it being 'just the right side of gutless' . Personally I would avoid as there are plenty of better cars on the market such as the Mazda CX5, Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson.

Can`t see how a 1.6 is powerful enough.

The new Crv is a little soft in the rear and works too hard to deliver the goods as a reasonable towcar. As Simon100 says Koreans might be a good alternative. I would be very wary of the CX5 whilst pretty  well all Mazdas score highly  it rates a lowly 85th most reliable in the Auto Express Driver satisfaction reliability survey. Easily the most unreliable Mazda to date . Sadly warranty also has no options to extend it beyond standard 3 years.

Write your comments here...Not quite the CX-7 is worst.

87 position isnt great out of 200, but the overall position is 65.

Latest CRV isnt great either, if you believe the results.

I appreciate that people try to be helpful, but I would suggest you double check all the information provided.

The warranty for the Mazda CX-5 can be extended through Mazda UK.

Rather than concentrating on one set of data, it's really worth looking at other reviews of the CX-5. For example have a look at user comments at:

No experience of the CRV but feel that like most people, a 1.6 is going to feel underpowered.

As for 'User' reviews on the CX5, isn't that like any owner of any car !! It's the best tug ever, the best car I have owned, so glad I bought it. Most peoplel say 'ours is the best' rather than admit to being foolish in buying it.

7n a recent article in the papers Mazda came fourth for reliability behind Honda, Toyota and Suzuki. The figures were from a warranty provider so read what you will into it.

Hyunda and Kia took the next two places.

I own a CRV 2.2cdti  but I seem to have read some where that the 1.6 has the same BHP as the 2.2 CRV.

The 1.6 Honda crv has 160 bhp 10 more than the 2.2 .They both have the same torque.

I thought  I had read this White123, if this is so then surely the 1.6 is man enough for the job. I didn't have any trouble towing wit mine.
