2017 VED changes
Well that's good news!
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/88361/tax-disc-changes-everything-you-need-to-know-about-uk-road-tax
New cars reg'd after April 2017, that cost under £40k, after the first year will all cost the same to tax! (Unless they're 0 emissions)
So you're Super little Eco boxes, will cost the same as your more substantial Towcars!

This is if you can get a "substantial" tow car for less than £40,000!

Easy, you don't need Range Rovers to tow a good size caravan.
Most expensive xtrail is under 33k, the CC favourite!
Passat's from £24kDiscovery sport from £32k

VED is a daft tax. It must have been costing a fortune to administer. It should be dumped completely, and the tax put on fuel at tax neutral level. The more you burn, the more you pay.
it would be fair to everyone and ecologically right.

Have not read the article but what will the amount be, i have a 2015 Volvo XC60 and pay £30 road tax per year.
I think you should be paying around £250 ...... that way you could pay about half of mine leaving me with about £250 too

As it has been pointed out to me by a car salesman all bands of car tax from April 2017 will be £140.So my wife's runaround will increase by £120.My tow car will reduce by £40.Buying cars new has also had the initial tax increased.
If you google it you can see a chart which explains it.This looks like a very crafty move by the chancellor now people downsized their cars.
0% emissions cars are still exempt from car tax.

That should ensure a boost to small car sales in the short term.

Write your comments here...Not accorinding to the article i have read as i understand it is only for new cars from April 2017 (may not be 100% on this) but is still driven by co2emmisions eg 77-90 £100, 91-100 £120, 100-110 £140 and so on cap is set at 255 which is £1700 anything over 255 £2000. Cars above £40000 pay annual supplement £310 for five years.

Sell, yes you are correct,I seem to have misunderstood the complexity of this change.I can now relate to what the car salesman had said on the purchase of my wife's new car.Purchase it before April 1st and the car tax is £20 per year buy it after the 1st
April £140 per year.0 -
Every single car reg'd after that date in 2017 (unless 0 emissions) will be £140 a year after the first year. With the supliment for cars over £40,000.
It's almost gone back to the old days where everyone paid the same!
cars currently registered will be uneffected and go by the current (rather barmy) emissions banding.0 -
