I would like to advise & ask club members who own a Honda CR-v for your help in a dangerous problem we have. We purchased a 2006 model Honda CR-v 2.2 CTDi sport in February 2007. This was the last
of the shape before the new out now. In the deal we had fitted a genuine Honda removable swan neck tow bar & also fitted was a genuine Honda wiring loom connected behind the rear inside panelling terminating at that time with a 7 pin socket. I have since had
fitted a 13 pin socket so as to connect to our caravan. Until last June we where unaware that the Hazard Lights only work with the ignition in ON position. When having to use them & switching OFF ign. An irate motorist informed me the hazards where not working
on the caravan although the CR-v was all correctly working. Upon testing it was found they only work beyond the CR-v only if the ignition was ON. In off or accessory (1) the Honda wiring loom is dead. I have contacted Honda Head Office & also there Technical
Department asking why this is happening & can you look at your wiring diagrams to find out ( as my auto electrician & I believe there is a relay that puts the power into another wiring system ) but as usual Honda turn there back stating I should contact my
local dealership for help. I am refusing to go down this road as when a fitter starts work it costs around £70 an hour to inform us something already known, that the wires are dead in the OFF position. Please can any Honda CR-v owners of this model or later out
there who have the genuine wiring loom fitted try out so we can asses how many others have this fault & do not know about it. If so please inform other members in this discussions page so we can find the number who are driving like this unknown. We after hooking
up try with ign ON L/R indicators, Stop lights, Running lights, Reversing lights, Fog light, & Hazard Warning lights, Everything always works correctly. I have contacted the Clubs Technical department who has sent my e-mail onto the magazine in the hope they
will print this asp so members can be aware of the problem I have.  Many thanks to all you owners who will try out your hazards & report back as this to us is a really dangerous problem.

Hmm. Never had occasion to test my hazards with the ignition off on my Kuga. I wonder how that is wired. It may not be a problem peculiar to your CRV.

Are you sure it's your car at fault? Did it all work as it should before you swapped the 12N for the 13pin? Can you try AN Other caravan/trailer and see what happens?

I do tend to think like Mollys Mummy. The problem sounds more like your instalation or the change to the thirteen pin plug but it does need looking at. Personally I would avoid the agents as most know very little about tow bar electrics. I would try a tow bar specialist as they usually have more information on these problems.

I would avoid fitting the makers tow bars as they are often more expensive than the perfectly good ones from the likes of Witter and Brink. In addition because dealers do not get enough requests to have the expertise the specialist fitters will often get the job and manufacturers spec the minimum standards which may not be suitable for your caravan.
