Hi L & P we used to have a new 220 e class estate, had tow bar fitted by fitter that was recommended by dealer(JCT600) no problem with warranty. Had a detachable one fitted, looked good and all electrics worked fine, wasn't too keen on having to lay on the
floor to insert the hook into the holder though. The reason we got rid was the pathetic nose weight, lovely car and smashing engine though.Steve

I would go for a specialist firm. Dealers often send them there anyway as the number they are asked for is so low the dealers do not have the experience to do it. I would Google the make you fancy and see who can fit it locally.
We did get the dealer to fit a towbar on the last car. When we picked it up it had been fitted by a specialist firm and still had their sticker in the back window and their tow bar cover.
If you get a Merc one make sure it is suitable. Manufacturers may simply meet the minimum spec with insufficient clearance for an ALKO hitch or unable to handle LED rear lights.

I am guessing but your £3204 inc will include mods to the car cooling system - maybe fan upgrades to contstantly rated and probably an additional one. A friends ML250 was quoted at £2750 plus vat for a tow bar from Mercedes - this included the fan upgrades - the parts list filled an A4 sheet. If upgraded cooling is a requirement by Mercedes you would be well advised to take notice as non fitting [of cooling mods] could compromise the warranty.

but even allowing for A N Other/upgraded fan being fitted, £3000+ is still taking the proverbial
