does anyone tow a caravan that is heavier than there car

my skoda yeti logbook says the car is 1565 kg but allowed to tow 2100 kg

surely thats not safe ??

    As  far  as  I  am  aware  all  the  CLUBS   recommend  85%  or  close  to  it.  What  the  vehicle  is  capable  of  towing  in  a  straight  line  for  short  distances  is  a  very  different  thing  in  deed.

    Correct armourer that is NOT recommended and not safe.

    But its ok to tow a trailer of that weight. LR  cars often tow trailers much heavier than the towcar.

    There's a plate somewhere on your car with 4 weights .... max gross weight of car, max train weight ie max car weight & max trailer, max weight front axle & max weight of rear axle.You can tow to the max train weight as long as you don't exceed the other
    weights.

    The 2100kg will be the weight the Skoda/VW say that your car will be capable of restarting from a stand still on a slope (the gradient of which I can't remember)

    Whilst i do not get excited about the 85% advice i would certainly not want the tail wagging the dog even if it is legal. I am currently towing around 90-95% depending on how much I put in the van and have not knowingly had any scary monents attributable
    to the weight, however I will not go much higher.
