Picking up my new Discovery Sport on Saturday, to replace my Freelander 2.  Loved it on test drive and it will give us 7 seats and more luggage space.  I tow a Bailey Unicorn Vigo 3 and wonder how well any other owners (with the new 2.0l engine) have found their cars tow?  Am a bit worried that I might need to take an IT diploma so as to be able to use all the technology!

Don't worry about the technology just find a ten year old.

    Enjoy the new car.

I am currently on a Discovery 4 and will look at the Sport version on next change. There is a bit to consider when going for the Sport. If you don't need 7 seats then the 5 seat version allows a full sized spare wheel (essential for me as I do go off road). Also it needs a specific tow bar so trust you have that sorted with LR. Either version will be a superb tow car but you will know that from your current FL2.

id love to know your opinion of the discovery sport as a Towcar, as I was thinking of buying one of these later this year. we were only new to caravanning last year, and were lucky enough to have a big car to pull our choosen caravan, and fortunately seemed
to have no problems with the match. I love my current Towcar, but wondered whether to swap to the discovery. could I ask what weight your caravan is and am I right that the discovery can tow up to 2000kg?

Tow bar is not the issue it was initially. Now able to have 7 seats, space saver spare wheel and removable tow bar.

Took delivery of our 2.0 180 auto back in November.  Tows beautifully in my opinion, compared to our BMW X1.  Not sure how it compares to the freelander, but it's a great car... Enjoy...  Red setter, yes the Disco Sport is 2000kg, but you can upgrade when ordering to 2500kg.  We tow a 1600kg Coachman and it performs very well, although economy is poor for a 2.0...

Write your comments here... What mpg Nick? - Mind it can take 10,000 miles for a diesel to get fully run in

Averaging about 37 in normal driving (48 average in the X1), less on shorter journeys, and around 22 towing... Was getting around 26 - 28 out of the X1 when towing...

Sounds a bit thirsty, even allowing for a new engine that has still to bed in.

Well my Cx-5 is only returning around that with around a 1K miles up, but that all local driving.

I would have thought with extra gears the LR would be returning a little more.
