Automatics are wonderful when in normal driving, but if, for example you have to reverse into a tight entrance a manual can be controlled using the clutch and throttle. But, an automatic cannot be control in the same way, it is either stop or go!
Mmmmm? ...... that's getting into the which is best? Auto or manual debate. I manage very well reversing my caravan down the side
of my house with about 10" either side even with a go pedal & a stop pedal. If you can't do the same, you either don't drive drive auto's very often or are doing it wrong. Ian auto,s are no different than manuals when it comes too reversing and i would have though an ex professional driver would have no problem with either.I,m no professional driver but i can use either just aswell.The type of tranmission should make no difference at all nomatter where your trying too back in.As regards MM there was no mention of inexperience as far as i can see.

Write your comments here... I don't agree with that. Having towed with both and been driving like you a very long time 57 years in fact, I find my present vehicle Lexus RX 350 the most simplest of all the vehicles I have driven and that is from Fords to
Jags .Reversing is as easy as it gets and up Mollys standard.0 -
Autpmatic for us, and have done for nearly 30 years. Wouldn't go back to a manual at all. All have been good towcars, Volvo, Ford, Vauxhall (except for the Omega, but that's another story) and our present is a Zafira which surprisingly is a good tug.

I'm sat comfortably ...... apart from an initial hic-cup my 3.0 Omega wasn't a bad car, certainly a good towcar .... a bit of a thisty bugger when towing though)
Our Omega was a good towcar, it was a 2.2 and top of the range, and that was the problem. It had so much gadgetry on it, the computerised system on it kept going wrong and we had to have that changed twice not counting the sensors it kept blowing. Fortunately most of the work was under warranty but then it started costing us money and when a technician from Vauxhall HQ tells you to get rid of it, that's what we did.
Plus it was such a Diva anyway, I swear it had a mind of its own, and thought it was beneath it to pull a van. It had a very reproachful look if we went on a rally field as if to say "do you really expect me to drive across this mud", lol.
We traded it in for a very basic Zafira, it even has wind down rear windows because I was so fed up with all the electronic stuff going wrong on the Omega. We still have it and it has been a good car. No major problems, just wear and tear and tows really well. Just had a recall check for fire risk and passed that OK.

Ah! A Desmond (Desmond Tutu ... 2.2 ) Mine was a top of the range Elite too .... never had a problem with any of its gadgetry,
just a couple of crank sensors & a coil pack in 10 yrs & 90 000 miles ... but it had a full compliment of cylinders0 -
lam in the process of changing my Shogun for an outlander, had 3 Shoguns the latter being an auto, so much more relaxing than the manuels. So pretty much sure l will choose the auto outlander but will have to spend another 1500 to 2000 against the manuel
