Hi kengina, welcome to CT. Sorry, I can't give you a personal opinion of the good/bad points for the cars you mention, but have you already acertained they are suitable towcars for your caravan? If not, try looking at the Club's online outfit matching service.
You'll need the exact details of each car model as some versions of the same model may match, and some won't.  Apologies if I'm "teaching you to suck eggs".  I'm sure someone will come up with some info for you.

Hi bandgirl both cars match my caravan just not sure what one of the cars to get was hoping that someone might have either car to get some feed back.

Hi again, that's good that they match. I expect you'll get some replies from people who have used those cars when your post has been on for a few hours and they've had a chance to see it. Somewhere on the CC web site there are towcar reviews. Have you seen
them? Perhaps these cars are featured on there.

You might need to post your caravan details to get an accurate answer?   Or search the clubs online matching service.  I have a Mitsubishi Outlander that tows beautifully and has decent space at the back for my big dogs (when not using the extra seats for
    seating 7)

Hi kengina, without having more of an insight into what you need out of a car it is impossible to answer. Its a bit like asking is red or yellow a better colour for my front door. Given both cars appear to be capable of towing your 'van you need to decide
what is important to you. For a given budget you will buy a newer Kia than a Beemer however some may argue the Beemer is a better car, especially if driving dynamics matter to you (they do with me but not everyone is bothered about handling, steering feedback,
brake feel etc). Other will point to the Kia warranty and amount of kit they come with as standard. I suggest you also go on the relevant marques forums for info too. I would personally be looking at neither and considering a used Q5 or A6 Allroad or if funds
allowed a Discovery Sport or D4 so you can see you are potentially opening up a minefield! If you can give an indication of budget and what the 'must have' features or parameters are along with the desirable but not essential items it will be easier for readers
    to help you.

You can try a Toyota Land Cruiser depending on your budget very reliable.

.... not sure waht car would be best for me a Kia Sorrento or a BMW X5  ...

I'd have thought there'd be a huge difference in running costs between the two cars

The Discovery Sport is going to be so common soon! Have a close look at the running costs of eash particularily if you are not buying new and car will be out of warranty.

Call in at the dealers and ask for their specification leaflets and then you can see which levels have what, which suits you and what the prices are. That will help to narrow down your options. The Kia website has a good second hand search facility where you can refine your search, don't know about BMW's. A highlighter pen comes in useful.

The Kia is probably the best tow car but not sure what engine the BMW has. What you need is low down torque and possibly the BMW has one producing this at high revs.Torque at low revs is good as setting off is hard on the clutch if you need lots of revs particularly on hills but it also gives better flexibility on the road.

Kengina, My OH has some difficulty getting in and out of our Sorento, I have long legs which help. Before paying to have running boards fitted down the sides (at some cost) we tracked down a car at a dealer with them already fitted. When we went to see and
try the boards we found that most of the board is under the door sill and they were no help. Just for your info.

Hi Nuggy I know what you mean my wife is disabled so have to think of that we tried the BMWX5 but with the boards it was not possible for her to get in the car, so with that got a sorento with no boards.

Kengina,  Speak to your local dealer, I would suggest someone in the parts Dept. would be best and ask if a step could be fitted, rather than running boards.
