Fiat Motorhomes
Morning again. I was wondering if anyone had a fiat based 2.3 MH, is it common to be in 6th gear and around 2k revs when at 60?
Also does your engine fan kick in frequently?

Fan on ours kicks in frequently in traffic.
Depends which chassis you have as the heavy chassis uses different final drive gear ratio and has different sized wheels. Standard chassis has 15" wheels and the heavy duty chassis has 16" wheels. Have a look at the spec sheet for you engine on Fiat website and it will give you the gearing ratio

thanks very much for your replies, never driven a motorhome before, and knew it would be slow due to weight etc (maybe not as slow as it is) but the rev thing did make me wonder.

My 150 bhp 2.3 PVC does about 60mph at 2000 revs and yes the fan does kick in a lot, especially in warm weather. My previous van was a Peugeot and the fan was just the same

I have a 2.3 150bhp engine (2013) and it runs at 2000 revs, or a fraction above, at 60 mph.
With over 20,000 miles on the clock my fan has never 'kicked' in.

2000rpm sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I can't say I've ever heard my fan while driving. I can sometimes hear the air con switch in and out, obviously the fan can be heard from outside when pitching, but I'd be very surprised to be able to hear it on

You have to remember it's a commercial vehicle and not designed for the race track. Take your time and enjoy the view it really doesn't matter if it takes half an hour longer to get there

Agree completely, always been a sensible driver, so always remember to take my time and to make sure enough of a gap when pulling out into lanes etc.
funnily enough i did see one MH at the weekend must have had foot to floor , cant of been doing much short of 80mph.

The 2.3 Fiat engine is pretty bomb proof,the others from the Sevel stable tend to use the Ford built 2.2

We have sprung an oil leak at 4000 miles on our 2.3 Fiat X290 ( 16 Plate ). Turns out it's the turbo charger oil supply pipe leaking at the turbo charger end. The cure is to fit a new turbo charger and oil supply pipe with different fittings. Take the best part of a day to do the job and has to be done from underneath. Just glad I am not expected to pay for it.

You'd be unlikely to be able to hear your electric engine fan running when driving due to the increased noise of the engine, road & wind noise even if it did run. But as driving any vehicle will give an air flow across the radiator, the fan won't need to

we have a 2015 2.3 150bhp Ducato and 2000 revs at 60mph isnt far out.
all the torque for,this motor is at the bottom end 1500 revs upwards (although trickling around town at tickover in third is still easy) but the motor is certainly not a revvy one by nature.
yes, it can be 'caressed' upto 4000 revs or even a little beyond, but youll get just as far, equally quickly, by just changing up and let
the next big fat wad of torque ease you along....0 -
I think my motorhome which is an IVECO chassis has the 3 litre Fiat engine 2000 revs in 6th gear equals about 55/58mph. The engine fan cuts in when it has to work hard and the engine temperature starts to climb above normal, e.g. on long hill climbs especially
if towing a car or on lesser hills in a higher temperature environment.peedee

i dont think ive ever seen our temp needle at anything other than bang on centre....
ive only heard the fan come on once (or possibly twice).....
still a damn good MH base unit, despite the detractors....

You cannot fail to hear the engine fan come on my engine, it is very noisy and gave me some concern for a few seconds when I first heard it. Now I am well aware what the whirring noise is, I think nothing of it but do then keep one eye on the temperature

Think yourself lucky if you have a temp gauge these days .... many cars don't have one .... just a warning light
after it's gone over tempmy pevious Audi had one, my wifes little Fiat 500 Lounge has one, as does the Ducato.
cant remember being in a car with no temp guage, but in others i have driven, perhaps i hadnt specifically noticed if there were or not....
