Gear Selection problems

I have recently replaced the gear selector cables on my Bessacar 425 Motorhome with a Fiat Ducato Body, i cannoy get 1st & 2nd gear without first going into reverse and then coming out and then into 1st have anyone had any experiance of this

    Sounds more like a clutch fault ..... is it cable or hydraulic? Adjusting or bleeding might help ..... Undecided
