where to go for motor home servicing

Hello all, We have recently purchased our motor home, and very pleased we are with it. However where to go to get it serviced, it is Fiat ducato based engine, and we live in Malvern, worcestershire, and has any one have any recommendations, to service vehicle
from a motor home perspective.

    I have always gone to my local commercial dealer, sometime they are the only ones with bays big enough to due the MOT.

    You need a commercial vehicle garage for the vehicle service and a MH dealer/technician for the hab unit service. We never bother with the latter but that's up to you.

    Unfortunately its all part of the owning a motorhome learning curve. For better or worse I have decided to have both cab and habitation service done at the dealer where I purchased it from. On the downside I am probably paying more but on the plus side I only have to take it to one place. Ours is a Peugeot cab and the local Peugeot dealer is just not geared up to servicing anything as large as a 7.5mt motohome. There is a local commercial dealer who will do the cab service but they can't do MOT's on that size of vehicle but can on lorries!!! No doubt if I tried really hard I could find someone within a 30 miles radius of Milton Keynes but it seems far too much hassle to me.

    We must be extremley lucky where we live because 7 miles South we have a main Peugeot dealer and 10 miles North we also have one. They are both able to deal with a M/H cab service and MOT, we also have several other garages (not Peugeot) that can offer the
    same service. Habitation is a bit more awkward as the dealer we bought it from is in Aberdeen 180 mile round trip away. However should we wish we could arrange with them to have the cab and MOT done while they have it. We also have 2 other dealers closer that
    would do habitation service and 2 mobile agents aswell.

    jeff, you don.t need  to go to a commercial dealer to get your vehicle serviced. If you have a local independent who has a big enough unit who you can trust, then give them the job. I have one within two miles of me who has looked after my M'home for the
    last four years, no problem at all. I also employ an independent mobile caravan service engineer, who has all the bells and whistles , to give a habitation service to my M'home at my home at my convenience, again no problems, Why pay commercial rates when
    you don't have to?....Cool

    Go on the Fiat Professional or Fiat Camper web site and you can find a Fiat dealer nearest to you that services motorhomes. Check the dealer's website and speak to them on the phone to ensure they can service your sort of van. Motorhomes have a different
    service schedule to Ducato vans so choose one who understands this. My Fiat dealer greases the Alko chassis for me. Your van should also include the thick Fiat booklet on service centres so have a look in that.

    My Fiat dealer who excels in motorhome servicing is 90 minutes away so be prepared to travel!

    If you want an independent garage to service the motorhomes, ask the locals. You could try MMM's databse of servicing garages based on readers' input but I don't know how reliable is the data. You could also post on motorhome forums such as Motorhome Fun,

    We had a problem with Peugeot post warranty ( 4 years old). The electric window motor broke.Peugeo would not replace as the vehicle had not been services at a Registered Peugeot Garage. It was done by the M/H dealer each time. Despite  the window motor not
    being part of any servicing they declined to assist.

    if the van still has a damp warranty to maintain, check the small print as it 'may' be required to be done by a specific franchise....if so, a d you want to maintain this, you may have little choise in where you get the hab check done....what brand of MH
    is it....? it may also be that this 'franchise' could also do the base vehicle service.....

    however, if you arent tied to anywhere specific, the Fiat Professional sugestion above is a good one.

    similarly, if you are happy to use an independent for the hab check, there are many independents (some NCC approved) who can do it, sometime they are 'mobile' and could do it at your home if required...

    I use a Fiat or an Iveco dealer, where ever I happen to be at the time. Overseas if possible, as much cheaper.

    If you have an ALKO chassis, you will also need to "ask to get your nipples greased".

    Fiat website will direct you to dealers.
