Petrol gauge not working

HELP Hi all i have a 2011 swift escape 622 .2.2 ducato engine.the problem is the petrol guage works fine on the initial start up.but as soon as the accelerator is in use the guage drops to empty with the low fuel light coming on.it will stay this way untill
i turn the engine off.HELP
