Warm Days, Warmer Fridge !!
Oh Botheration !!
The WAECO compressor fridge in my Autocruise Jazz has failed and Spinney M/homes say its outside their field of expertise. They did give me the mobile number of a "fridge Fixer" they reccommend but I'm getting no response from him/her.
So if anybody has a suggestion or three to aid me in finding a cure I'll be infernally ( ) gratefull !!

Just confirmed a date ( 18th July 09.00 !! ) for the Fridge Fixer to come to my door & try to get into the corner where A/cruise fitted the fridge !! Probably charge me double for the Physio he will need afterwards, tho I'll be able to fix him up with an Ice bath tho !
Cheers DD -- I owe you !!

Hi, its probably too late now as you may have had it sorted, but my answer is as follows. Fridges create heat by pushing a compressed gas around a series of pipes & once they get too hot their function is compromised by this excess heat. I travel to Spain
for our holidays & I got fed up with everything getting to around 10c in the hot climate of Spain. Firstly, I tried removing the outer covers on the Van/Caravan sides. This improved things slightly. I then introduced a 230v fan at the bottom open cover that
was removed, this did the trick but was unsightly & could not be used when the fridge was on gas. I then went on E Bay and purchased a 12v computer fan complete with surround & it was pre-wired(Cost under £5). I found a 12v wire at the back of the fridge with
a multi meter. The fan was placed near the cooling fins blowing the air upwards to help convection! I wired this in as a temp fitting & only had to pull apart the connectors to turn it off when travelling etc. Its only used in hot climates & drawers hardly
anything & certainly less than half an amp! Over the years I have shown it to many onther campers with motorhomes or caravans & last year someone said oh Dometic sell something like that for about £60 From memory it cost me less than £5... My Fridge & Freezer
work fine & the freezer can now store Icecreams without them turning to slush! Ive also found that gas gets the fridge coldest quickest & only then do I turn it over to electricity. I hope this is of help to anyone having similar problems. (PS. Always ensure
that the fan is fused on the live(+) wire!) An electrician will fit this or it can be done during your habitation service. About 30 mins Labour approx?) Best wishes, Jon0 -
Took me ages to find where this thread was hiding !
Aologies for the excessive delay in replying to you goodd folks.
sadly the Dometic engineers could not fix the fridge 'cos it was failing due to a lack of refrigerant gas. Several companies were recommended as being up to the task but they were not interested in such a piddling little
job, factories & supermarkets were really what they were looking for !So the final move was to purchase a new Waeco fridge. Found a company at Bromsgrove, Wirral who could and indeed did supply one fridge -- ordered Friday after lunch, arrived Monday before lunch !! Unbeatable to my way of
thinking, so after lunch out with the tools, unpack & fit! Just like that !Tried it & all seemed well and just had 12 days in Dorset inc 8 days on the Steam Fair site @ 6 amps max

P.S. ( Timed out !!)
The 12 days I've just had inc 8 on G D S F were a good test for it -- 6 amps max at Steam Fair & I set it at Four out of four and the carrots started getting ice granules so up to Three for the duration. Everything worked A O K , even running quieter that it ever had, so it was probably failing slowly from when I bought it. After the mains was withdrawn on Monday at 3 pm { so the C.C. could have its tackle back, } I continued using the fridge for another 20 hours or so just on its battery and for the drive home, 200 m. By the time I unloaded the fridge temp had risen to 6*C -- the goodies didn't even know they'd been away !!
Thanks to you all, especially Dorset Diver, whose MH would have been in no danger at G D S F at all -- just a thunderstorm then a quick drying up with no mud at all !!
