Leisure battery fully charged but no oower

Hi hoping someone can suggest a cause for my lack of e12volt power from my leisure battery. It is new and fluky charged but when switching the zig to leisure battery I get a very dull red light and no power. If I switch the zig to car battery the green light
glows brightly and all the lights work well.

I am due to tour France next week and none of the local caravan mechanics have any time to fix my problem. As the car battery works the 12v system well and hook ups work too I am hoping it is a simple fix and would be grateful for any suggestions .

many thanks

Niall

Get the battery checked out could Be a dud, for a quick check take car battery off the car and plug into van if every thing works it would prove the battery is at faulty or there could be fault with the zig unit.

It's unlikely to be the Zig unit because it uses the same  circuit for both batteries.  There could of course be a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the zig.

My money would be on the battery.

Mine too. Have you tried measuring the voltage across the battery terminals when not on hook up. If it is fully charged it should read about 12.8 volts. Anything less than 12volts means you have a problem. It may mean you just need to recharge the battery.

On caravans there is normally a 20v in line fuse near the battery box so it is likely to be something like this in your motorhome.  Look at the manuals to see if you have anything like goat fitted or a another fuse somewhere. If the old battery shorted out
its possible it blew a fuse somewhere.

The battery reads 13.1 so it is fully charged. i guess it is a fuse or relay somewhere but would that still allow a little electricity through to power a light dimly?

DD could be right, perhaps your battery has a bad earth to the chassis. This would make sense with everything working on hookup where the earth would be provided via the EHU. I would check your battery earth. Disconnect your negative terminal, assuming negative
is earth, and check the continuity of the lead to the chassis and any other earthing points to the chassis you can find.

Congratulations DD you were correct although it was a earth lead from the zig that had corroded away from the chassis. New earth put on and old a new battery working well so glad I have a spare. Thanks everyone for helping.

To me this is CT at its best. ?.  Knowledgeable people giving advice on how to resolve issues.

I might add I have read all the posts, each being clearly written, and I think that without really understanding 12v or 240v other than very basically, I might have stood a chance. But I wouldn't be put off asking more questions when I started the exploration.

Deleted UserUser so sorry to hear that you could well have a dilemma in your hands.  I'm sure that it won't be an issue it was a good turn ?
