Motorhome AND car breakdown cover
I have had Green Flag car breakdown cover for several years.
I have M/H breakdown cover via the insurance company.
Is it possible to have ONE breadown cover policy that covers myself + Spouse for both cars AND motorhome ?
My M/H is just outside the normal Green Flag size limits.

Caravan Club Mayday (a version of Green Flag) or C&CC Arrival with the RAC. We have Arrival and it covers both of us in any car and the MH with unlimited length or weight.

I have BD cover with my MH insurance (Safeguard) but I have also taken out Green Flag Mayday with the Club to cover 2 cars and the MH (again), plus any car my wife and I are travelling in. One feature of Mayday that I feel reassured about having is recovery from "soft" ground which isn't covered by Safeguard.
My MH is 7.8 metres long and 4.2 tonnes GVW.

I wa a member of the AA for 28 years, until they asked for £228-00 renewal this year. The subscription had been going up steadily year on year until I thought, sod this, I'm sure I can get good breakdown cover for less than that. I rang my bank RBS to see if they had any breakdown cover available through my bank account. I had a Gold account which was costing me 12 quid a month. They said if I upgrade to a Platinum account for 16 quid a month I would get full cover (Breakdown Plus) with Green Flag. This was all sorted before we recently bought our first Motorhome a couple of months ago. I have just rung Green Flag to ask about Motorhome cover, and was delighted to here that I am already covered through my Platinum account with the RBS. That's a saving of £101-00 for the Mayday cover offered by G/F. With this Platinum account, ANY vehicle registered at my address is covered by Green Flag's top breakdown cover. If anyone is thinking of breakdown cover for your motorhome, have a word with your bank first to see if there are any deals available. For me, £16-00 per month for breakdown cover for the 2 vehicles we have (Wifey's car included) plus the M/home, plus the other benefits the account gives me, is great value.

However, when looking at breakdown cover for Motorhomes you need to be very aware that most companies have weight and length restrictions. You need to check them to ensure your vehicle is in compliance.
I have a Flex-Plus account with Nationwide. If you read the documents they provide it does indeed mention Motorhorhomes are covered. However, there is a length restriction which I think was 8m (I may be wrong on that) So please do not just assume when the
companies mention Motorhome breakdown that all motorhomes are covered. Check the fine detail to ensure you are covered for your vans specifications. You dont want to be at the side of the road in distress and find out the hard way.0 -
Hi Stewartwebr. Sorry, I should have mentioned that the Green Flag lady did ask me the specifications of my van before telling me it was covered, and you are indeed right as to the length, as she informed me it was up to 8 meters, and mine is 6.1 meters.
Didn't mean to mislead anyone, but hope the info. could be of help to others, Cheers.0 -
We already had AA breakdown cover - just checked and motorhome is included as long as it is not over 2.3 meters wide and weighs 3500kg or less. I took my AA cover out in May - you can get quite good discounts if you go via cashback sites such as Quidco.
I tend to switch insurer each year as that gives the best discounts.0
