Axle weights and weighbridges

My nearest public weighbridge tells me it is not allowed to provide axle weights, only VOSA can do this. Is this true? Is it possible to get VOSA to check my axle weights?

Utter nonesense.  Can't think why anyone would say that unless they just didn't want you on site.

All that's needed is to drive the front axle onto the weighbridge and get a weight.  Then drive forward and repeat with the rear axle(s).  It really is that simple, and that's what DVSA expect you to do.

I always fully load the van, full tanks of water and diesel, plus wife, dog, etc..  That way you know the worst case scenario.

Your local trading standards team maintain the list of public weighbridges.  They should be able to advise you which ones are suitable in your area.  Not all are, I'd keep well away from any at quarries or tarmac depot's!

    Hope you get it sorted.

We use a local building supplies yard. Procedure there is drive on with front axle only then full van then drive partly off to weigh rear axle.

I use the VOSA weighbridge on King George dock, Hull. It is unmanned and free. I press the button then when the green light comes on drive onto the very long mechanism at walking pace. The digital screen gives me each axle & then full weight. I get no piece
of paper etc just my own notes. Regards Roy

How else does a weighbridge work?

The one near me, I drive my vehicle over a 1m long strip at slow-walking-pace, and it measures each axel weight and displays them to me to write down.

Then it adds them up and gives me a gross.
