"Code error" shown on Peugeot radios
I have previously posted this in "Caravan and Motorhome chat", so perhaps a kind moderator could remove the eariler entry?
The following applies to Peugeot Boxer vans, model numbers X250 (2006 to 2013) and X290 (2014 on-). It quite probably applies to the Citroen and Fiat versions as well.
If you have ever encountered the message, "Code error" on trying to turn the radio on in an X250 or X290 based vehicle when stopped on site, here is the solution as agreed with Peugeot Customer Services.
Do one of the following to clear the error message and to get the radio to play normally:
1) Turn on (and off again) the ignition
2) Open any base vehicle door
3) Close any open base vehicle door
4) Turn on (and off again) the vehicle lights
5) Briefly operate the hazard lights
Note that this error message is intermittent and quite often the radio will work normally without any action being needed other than switching it on by pressing the central control knob.
If the above sounds ludicrous then be assured that this is the official Peugeot solution to the problem as described in their reply dated March 2016 and reproduced below ..............
"Case no. xxxxxxxxxxxx
Dear Mr xxxxxxxxxx
Thank you for your recent Letter in regard to the radio in your Motorhome
I would like to confirm that I have spoken with xxxx in the Service Department at Robins & Day Stockport, who advised that you have been in recently to have a service on your motorhome. I also understand that the dealer also discussed the query you have raised
with the radio in your motorhome.
I would like to confirm that the functionality of the radio automatically switching off after a period of time, following the ignition being turned off is normal.
If after the allotted time the radio does go off, if you operate the hazards or turn on the ignition etc this feeds power to the fuse box and you should then be able to again use the radio for a further allotted time.
The reason for this is because the vehicle goes into power saving mode and switches off all items that could potentially drain the battery after the ignition is turned off. If the battery is drained following excessive usage, when the ignition is turned back
on, this could affect the power that is provided to the vehicle on startup.
In addition to this it is also so that a customer can use parts i.e. hazards when a vehicle brakes down and you are unable to start the vehicle.
My understanding from the dealer is that the reason you are getting the message "code error" is because you have tried to turn the radio back on without feeding power to the fuse box as described above.
I hope the above helps to answer your question, however if you require any further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely

Has no one else on this forum experienced the problem of "Code error"?
I am suprised, because this seems to be a common problem, especially amongst those who have changed the switch-off time of their radios from 20 minutes to 180 minutes. Are CC members different to the rest?

It could be that not many people use the radio. I can't remember the last time I used mine in the car and unlikely to use the one in the Peugeot AS because we will be nearly always overseas. I have loaded a USB flash drive though with some music.
Thanks for the tip.

IBM,
I read your post which i am very sure will be valuable to some newcomers, I suffer the issue on my van, but it has been extensively covered on other forums so was already aware of the solution......
Maybe the same applies to everyone else or perhaps people have read it, taken note but not commented.......??

Yes you are probably right. I only raised the issue here because I had not seen any discussion of the problem on the CC Forum (it was I that raised the issue and its solution originally on the other forums you memtion)
I still find it ludicrous that Peugeot can just shrug their shoulders about the matter and say in effect, "to turn the radio on, open a door".

Same thing in a Fiat Ducato Swift Sundance - last time it happened I went round the outside to open drivers door to put key in ignition and opening the door was enough for the radio to burst back into life! But ignition and door usually does the trick! Strange
set up especially as plugged in to mains.0
