Tanks full but still no water?
Hi, I drained my freshwater tank and the water heater for winter, refilling them last week for our first trip out but I'm getting no water at all through the taps or the shower.
Normally the hot water tank fills at same time as fresh water tank but if I open drain tap nothing comes out which tells me there is no water the truma water heater. This despite the fresh water tank overflowing when I filled it. The pump runs but doesn't
seem to be moving any water at all. I drained system and refilled again with hot taps open but still nothing. No hot or cold from any taps. Any ideas gratefully accepted.

I would remove the outlet pipe from the pump and see if you get a flow of water. It may be that the motor is running but the pump part is not working. You may also have a hole in the pickup pipe. To test pump a bucket of water and a piece of hose on the inlet and a piece of hose on the outlet.
Another explanation might be that the pump just needs some water in it to get things going.

Do you fill the tank using the pump? If so a valve may have been left in the wrong position.
If it is a watering can type fill then the pump is probably dry. I have heard of people just turning on a tap and sucking with their mouth. Stop sucking when the pump noise changes though!

If your system has a submersible pump, lift the pump out of the water and check that the impeller spins. Sometimes the impeller sticks after a prolonged shutdown but there's sufficient torque in the motor to turn the drive shaft without turning the impeller. Alternatively there may be an airlock in the pump and the impeller is trying to pump air instead of water. Shake the pump in the tank to move the air pocket and if the impeller spins it should pump the water through your system.

Is your water heater the older type, ie with a drain plug beside the heater flue ?.If so did you leave the plug out over winter for frost/ice expansion?. If yes to these questions a Bee could well have crawled in and is now blocking the hot water system. This
happened to us some years ago,it is then a pipe dismantling job to unblock the system.0 -
When we fill up the freshwater tank after a total drain down, it takes about 5 minutes of our submersible pump running before the taps begin to splutter and then eventually deliver water. The hot takes longer while the water heater fills up. You may not
have a problem, just need to wait. However, our 'van is pretty old so this advice may not apply.0 -
agreed, the OP hasnt even specifically stated that he has the pumP ON...
with water running into the fresh tank (from a hose?.....) you should be able hear ot whooshing into the fresh tank.
after a minute or two, with the pump on and taps still closed, it should whirr away transferring water into the hot water tank.
after a few mins, the pump will stop as the hot water tank becomes full.
open a cold tap and the pump will start and a bit of spluttering later and ypu should get a steady flow.
same again with the hot tap, however, after shutting the hot tap when the flow is steady, the pump should still run as it has to refill the hot tank.
once the taps are fully primed, you can put a bit more fresh back in to replace the bit that got pumped into the hot tank.
you should now have a fully filled/primed hot/cold system....
if you open the fresh drain tap you should get a flow of water bit with no pump noise.
if you open the hot tank drain tap it needs to be pumped out so the pump should fire up....

Thanks everyone sorted now. In my hate to go away I forgot to open hot tap be filling = total airlock. Fed length of pipe to inlet and force fed the blighter. It took some time but that first splutter of water was worth the effort. Moral of story, a
after reading instructions follow them.Once again a big thanks to all who advised

I'm back and same problem. I fill the fresh tank in my 2003 M/H pumps a running but no water coming out the taps (hot or cold)
I've tried as per instructions filling with hot tap running and pump on for about 20 mins. Nowt
Connected hose direct to inlet on pump & force fed it. After a while it fills as does the hot tank (Truma) Taps run fine. Within few hours try again No Water!?? from taps but still in tank?
Noticed slight drip from drain tap so by-passed that completely. Primed pump again, ran taps. 4 hrs later no water but pump running and head hurting from banging on wall.
It's a Shureflo freshwater pump with inline filter (checked) mounted under floor in wardrobe so pig to get at.
