UK driving license for motorhome.

we have been caravanning for years and are now considering a switch to a motorhome. My wife and I would both like to drive it and are both experienced drivers both having passed the driving test in the 1960s..We both have full UK driving licenses.

My question is can we drive a motorhome of 3.9 tonnes fully laden now and then what is the position when we turn 70 In 3.5 years time.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

    The limit is 3500kg laden at 70 unless you pass a medical. 

    You should be OK now at 3.9t but check your licence.

    I passed my test in 1961 and when I was 70 my 7.5 ton was removed automatically and I was limited to 3.5. having given up boating last year and started looking at Motorhomes  I needed to get my 3.5 ton increased to 7.5 ton again. I had to have long Medical
    forms completed by the Doctor and get an eye test,and forms completed by them.

    I send for the new licence on 25th november 2015 and did not get the new licence back till the week before the Feb Caravan show at the N.E.C.

     Make sure you check what you need to hold the 7.5 well

    before your 70th.
