i assime you could use the same company (CC) as your car insurance but not sure what you mean by 'add it to our car insurance'.....
are you thinking of a multi car policy...?
AFAIK, MH are usually insured as a totally separate item...ours is, despite it being insured with the same company (Saga) as our car.

Just been through the insurance process for the first time. Will be going with NFU (recommended on here) as pound for pound they offer us the best cover. They are not the cheapest but there are no hidden extras we can see. They are rated 5 stars on defacto
and are endorsed by Which. It appears that motorhome insurance is totally different when it comes to no claims discount - you can only bank motor home specific no claims bonus. Have to say of the many many companies I tried NFU were the best to deal with on
the phone. Worth giving them a try.0 -
Glad to have helped, Jack.

Hi Jack,
I have just used my car 9 yr NCB against my MH insurance, with The Club insurance.
Another point for some folk who have a Motability car, most insurers state when quoting that your NCB will be used by Motability, but it is not. Motability do not discount insurance and do not use your NCB.

Hi Billy C,
Considered doing that with the 9 years car NCD but it didn't work out economical overall as the car is expensive to insure. As fisherman says it needs careful consideration. The acid test with all these policies is what happens when you make a claim.

We have been with NFU for all our insurance as we have a croft and have to be well covered.
They did not flinch when we added our motorhome to the policy.
Most importantly, they do not quibble if you have to make a claim and local staff could not be more helpful!

Some years ago I had a correspondence with Lesley Coell the head of Caravan Club Insurance services about the scope of the Clubs motorhome insurance offering. I also had some problems with policy wording which was at that time car derived and had some significant
anomolies. My main concern was that the cover did not include retrofit items. This could be a £3K satellite system (as an example) so a significant proportion of the value of the vehicle would have been uninsured. Unfortunately the correspondence was terminated
by CC without a resolution. It might be worthwhile is the Club were to make a statement here about the current status of its offering because my concerns may now be historic and/or irrelevant ?0 -
We insured ours with Chaucer Insurance. They provided the best price and way below what the CC quote was for better cover and free 30 day cover for European travel. . As others have said, shop around. Motorhome insurance is very competitive. It's unlikely,
in my experience, that they will allow a car NCD against a motorhome but others may have other views. You certainly cannot add it to car insurance unless you have a multi-vehicle policy that will allow that.0 -
We collect a new motorhome in three weeks time and I have been phoning around for quotes. My car insurers (Saga) say that they will recognise my car ncd even though the two are kept separate. Unfortunately, they will not quote until the vehicle is actually
registered. Others will give some credit for car no claims. So far, considering the value of the motorhome the quotes are quite reasonable. Safeguard give a good discount for being a Marquis customer. Many so called insurers are just brokers of course e.g. Caravan Club, Safeguard, although I don't see a problem with that.

When we got our motorhome I could have either used the NCB on the motorhome or keep it with the car. We had previously never owned a second vehicle. In the end we decided to keep the NCB with the car and start a fresh with the motorhome. I went with the
Caravan Club insurance as they were similar to other quotes and rather strangly I was paying a similar amount for my caravan which the motorhome was replacing given the motorhome was worth three times the value of the caravan!!! The Club did offer a discount
similar to the NCB but its not protected.David

As everyone has said get several quotes and check the cover that each offers. Also don't forget that some policies include breakdown/recovery which might be a deciding factor. Don't rely on your normal car breakdown club as some have weight / length limits
too small for many motorhomes.Welcome to the motorhome community.
