Air conditioning unit recommendations

We are new to motorhoming and have planned a four week trip around france in August with the kids. We are wanting to get an air conditioning unit but don't really know where to start. We have a burstner ixeo plus IT 726 and prefer the idea of using one of
the roof lights. The thought of making holes in it makes us nervous! Any thoughts on brands, companies, types would be great TIA.

im pretty confident that there are brands (eg Dometic) that make these units to fit std size Heki rooflight apertures.....

this might even make them transferrable to a subsequent van...

speak to a dealer (mobile fitter?) before doing anything to your van....

Yes, you can get A/C units that are designed to sit in the hole a normal skylight would occupy. Some even allow light through, too. You will need to get a mains supply cable to it, maybe through a roof locker and across the roof. Unless you already have
a sat dome, one will probably add to your overall height and you need to consider payload, too. You will need EHU or a genny to run it and A/C can be rather noisy in operation. We tend to stay outside longer, rather than use it.

We have the Dometic B2200 on our caravan, fits in the small roof light aperture.  There are now newer models slightly different, ours is 3 years old.

They do make a noise when run on full, better on low.  On low, there is no discernable noise outside the van to disturb neighbours.
