Peugot Boxer Dashboard Illumunation
On my Peugot Boxer the dashboard is not illuminated unless I switch the headlights or side lights on. I cannot find anything in the manual with regard to this.
In this month's MMM there is an article regarding a similar problem with Fiat Ducato. Which is now going to be rectified by Fiat.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem or has any suggestions how to get the dashboard illumation to work when the ignition is switched on.

I never found it a problem and that is the way I would have expected it to work. If you get hold of a wiring diagram and determine what wire feeds the dash illumination, you may be able to reconnect it to a feed from the ignition switch, but I can see
no good reason to do it.0 -
Seems normal to me, thats the way it's always been on both my M'home (peugeot boxer base) and car. Why would you want tha dash illuminated in daylight ? Surely you wouldn't notice the difference.......

I think understand where you are coming from MM but the Ducato does present a problem as even in good daylight much of the time it can't be seen. In fact certain "good light" makes it worse because the cowl creats deep shade.
Ah! I see.

Write your comments I think the problem is with the design of the new X290 sevel instrument binnacle, they are hard to read, even in good lighting. I read somewhere that Fiat/sevel are looking at a fix,that will have the instrument back lighting come on with the ignition. (Did no-one test it before passing it ?) Evidently on LHD models the problem is not so bad ? Outside light shines onto instruments ?

What about your rev counter? One can soon remember what revs at what gear equals a given speed.

Maybe in top I'd have a rough idea but in the other gears absolutely no chance. I'd have to go out as a passenger, sit in the back seat behind the driver and note the revs down in each gear and then go away and memorise it.

Did see some time ago a mention of a simple cheap help for this problem { Not sure if it was on C.T. or in M.M.M. or Practical M/home }
take a piece of card of the approx size, cover it with kitchen foil with the shiniest side outwards & place this in the bottom of the binnacle & secure with Blutack or similar so it can be readjusted or reangled for
best effect.Its not an ideal answer I know but it should shed a little more light on the matter !!

Unfortunately it seems that many car makers have decided to permanently back light instruments ...... why? God only knows. My Merc's dash is always lit.
Write your comments here...At least you can read them, without back lighting the X290 's instruments are virtually unreadable.....be grateful.

Have a 2015 PVC and can confirm that the dials can hardly be read in normal daylight but are even worse on a bright day. I have used the above mentioned fix of placing a piece of card with foil on in front to reflect light into the dials. It does help but
it shouldn't be needed. I have regisered with FIAT to have the matter dealt with.0 -
