I have just had my Bailey Olympus checked for a trade in only to find that the roof is full of dents from hail also some on a side panel,My insurance has agreed to pay for the damage.I have now agreed to change it for one that has a hailproof roof.Has anyone
else had this problem? My local Bailey dealer gave it the no damage to roof in June 2016 Did we have hail in the summer? I am not getting another Bailey

Depends where you are based as there have been some big hail storms, and no leisure vehicle will be fully hail proof

I think hail proof is not feasible on a caravan. What you get is better resistance. I assume it is in a storage compound for you to be unaware of the hail storm which can be very localised.

Hail stone damage to the roof is not a problem in real life and if the dealer was looking at a large reduction in price to replace it I would be doubtful about it. Not sure how bad it is but I might see what another dealer says.

I wouldn't be too hard on Bailey or believe in a 'hail proof' caravan roof either - a freak hailstorm wrote off my mother in law's car (and dozens of others in the surrounding streets) a few years back - the car looked like it had been planished! The hailstones
even smashed concrete roof tiles, guttering and upvc window sills on her house, anything similar will inevitably damage a relatively 'soft' caravan of whatever  make.

Caravan kept next to my house and i do not remember any storm between june 2016 and november 2016. I will do my own roof check in the future even after a service which said a roof check had been done.We live and learn

Most of these type of severe hail storms happen in Western Europe, which is why some Continental motorhomes have Hail resistant roofs as an option, although we have them in the UK occasionally,  in 25 years of caravanning and motorhoming in the UK, I have
never experienced such a storm, and never had a van damaged by one. Mind you, with climate change... who knows ?

I have experienced such a storm in Cheshire. Fortunately not with the caravan or car
