Caravan PDI - This CC article amused me
I have just read a CC article on how a PDI is done. I had to chuckle as I wondered how much attention some dealers paid to PDIs
Also this piece:-
THE SCOPE OF A PDI A spotless caravan leaving a factory can become disappointingly dirty by the time it reaches a dealer. Some fittings might shake loose, too. So in addition to its transportation, a caravan must be thoroughly cleaned and
subjected to a PDI. Typically this can take three to four hours, depending on the model. To gain an insight into the work involved, I arranged to spend a day at the Midlands base of Venture Caravans

As I've always said, there is absolutely no incentive for dealers to carry out a thorough pdi.
Any faults that they 'miss' will usually be brought back to them for repair under warranty. So they get paid again to put them right.
Win-win for the dealer.
Lose-lose for the customer (who has all the inconveniance and expense of dragging the caravan back to the dealer.......and the attendant loss of use).

why do you not try working for a dealer, then everything would be absolutely spot on every time!!!!!!

So a fearless reporter goes deep undercover disguised only with a pair of rose tinted spectacles. To bring you an amazing story and all you can do is laugh.
I hope you are ashamed of yourself.

Write your comments here...My thoughts were 'What a blatant piece of advertising, were the CC paid for it. Or just an easy story. Either way it is meaningless. Now a suevey of caravans following an engineers
reports after PDI .............................0 -
Exactly so, TG.......it's a massive inconvenience to have to take a caravan back to the dealer and the present system doesn't reflect that at all......
Under the Consumer Protection Act you can in fact claim the cost of returning and collecting the caravan but nobody seems to bother. It would probably only be worth pursuing if you were travelling long distances or had to take two days off work.

I have claimed time and fuel back from a dealership and a supplier that I was not happy with but if a dealer is dioing their best for me would not bother. My present dealer has, when I have had to takesomething back, done additional work F.O.C,

The bit that is really sad is that some fittings might shake loose on the journey from the manufacturer to the dealer. Caravans must really be screwed together well
This must be the real reason why wheels aren't balanced it accelerates the shaking process some more things can be fixed during the pdi thus enhancing the customer experience

Although i had to take my van back for warranty repairs, i hardly lost out on it as after serious words with the dealer they actually paid fuel costs as well as a free first full service and valet. I have to admit they were serious words as they had patently
failed in there duty to carry out the pdi and i photographed and documented all the evidence. We are now on very good terms and have even had warranty parts sent direct to my house to save me the 130mile round trip. I think the quality of service seems to
be directly corrolated to the amount of noise you make .lol0
