Hi what does everyone do with the equipment/belongings etc inside the caravan when your van goes in for a service? Do you empty it all completely, or leave it all in there?

I take out the bulky items I store in the caravan such as my two awnings, table and chairs etc. but leave everything else in. I use a mobile engineer to carry out the service. If I was taking the caravan to a dealer I would be tempted to completely empty
    it.

When we had ours serviced by a main dealer we were told to literally empty it as they needed access to every seal, locker, hatch, drawer etc. It was a pain. Now we are serviced by a mobile engineer on storage site and I move things if asked to. I wait while
    he does the job.

The gangway has to be clear and reasonable access to the gas locker.  They ask me to take away the step and anything else can be left.

Only your particular dealer/servicer can indicate how much you have to remove.

They seem to vary considerably...we leave everything in but some require everything out!Smile

I empty front external lockers and all inside cupboards.  Even remove the carpets since found oil stains on carpet in the washroom after last years service.  Wife went balistic!!!!!  Basic rule, empty the lot to allow full inspection and damp tests.

Ours requests that everything is removed, but we do leave the pots, dishes and cutlery, they are not hindering access to anything.

We also cover the matress and seats with old sheets, and try to remember to remove the carpets.

Our dealer does prefer it if you empty all cupboards, lockers and underbeds also the grill, oven and underneath the cooker as these all have water pipes/gas pipes running through them.

Agree with KJ try and remember to remove the carpets.

I have my van serviced at my storage site by an excellent engineer from Northants. It is not necessary for me to empty the van and is also, I'm sure, cheaper than a dealer. I also do not have to take the van several miles to a dealer.

Our dealer advises that they would like the low lockers as empty as possible to check for damp,,they say the upper seams are damp proof? otherwise we leave everything in

We have never emptied the caravans wce have had serviced at  three different dealers and by a mobile engineer but do not leave a lot in them. It is worth checking though with a new workshop.

We use a mobile engineer who visits our storage site. We just take out anything that would get in his way, such as the chairs and awning. Everything stays in lockers.

I am fortunate to be competent enough to service ours myself so I don't have all that hassle.

Our dealer requires the van to be empty. However, it is no bad thing to do this once a year. A good opportunity to remove things that are never used. As to carpets, we leave these in. They cover them with plastic, which we leave in place until we have moved
    everything back in.

Thank you guys for all your answers. Query only arose because we got caught out on our last trade in when dealer claims he found damp on trade in day and we had had one service from a mobile engineer who it turned out wasnt registered at the time as per
the warranty stipulations. So we are now going to use a new workshop. (By the way the trade in dealer only reduced the part ex price by a couple of hundred, so it couldnt have been that serious, but we wouldnt use them again and wont be going there for a service
    either)

..I wish ours did that, they just use big bits of cardboard over the carpets, which is not 100% effective as they have twice managed to get  footprints on them.  They did however sort the problem.

It's our preference to completely empty our van, carpets and sofa cushions included.  That way there's no danger of damage and, as Steve says, it's good to look at what you've got in there and review whether it goes back in.

We take every thing out so they can do the damp check to the entire van. It is a pain but when we get the van back empty its a good chance to give it a good clean every where. We like to wipe the walls top to bottem and the roof then give it a good vac.
then put it all back I can't believe how much stuff we carry, but we use it all not every time.

Squip could you give me contact details please?  We'd much rather have a mobile enginner especially one recommended by another member.  Thanks.

Hopefully I'll remember where the post is so can check for replies as don't seem to get notifications any more.  If not our email address is auein@hotmail.com

    Hi

definitely cover the mattress ours was serviced at Lowdhams of Huddersfield and when we inspected it there was a size 15 boot print on the previously pristine mattress. The cleaner was called to clean it but never was the same for us.
