Thanks for clearing that up, Runrig. Slightly less straightforward than I thought, but happy bunny now.
(in my defence, I am a newbie) cheers.

Have to say, though, when in the brochure it states "Static Load on Coupling Head" = 100kg, ie no mention of "Maximum", it could be a tad misleading for a newbie dummy like myself.

We are new to caravaning and lindeed towing anything. Looking for something no fuss for weekends away, Just the rwo of us and a couple of bikes. Would be towing with a Peugeot PartnerTepee Any thoughts as to why this might not be the great solution it appears
to be?0 -

For me being an old fart with an arthritic spine I like the comfort of a fully sprung 6' 4'' long front bench to rest on occasionally. Also don't think that it would suit OH who likes more internal space, However 25 years ago I would have jumped at it

I sent the link earlier in this thread to friends of mine who were thinking of buying a motorhome. They loved it and are going to find one to have a look at with a view to buying. They are both retired, she's had both knees replaced, but they are both active
walkers, and cyclists (she on an electric bike) and like the spartan but sporty look of the Basecamp.0 -

to be?I'd think it would be ideal. Might be worth looking at the Knaus sport and fun as well as it's a bit bigger, has a fixed bed and should still be capable of being towed by your Peugeot.

Don't worry, most literature relating to caravan weights is ambiguous or missleading, you will see on here even seasoned caravaners rarely agree.
You are thinking about it, that's great.

It's addressing a section of the market that has been missed.
From our point of view the Knaus does what we want it to do better but if you want or need something closer to uk spec then this is a very good option.
The Basecamp seems quite a bit lighter than the Knaus, it would tow behind a car with a 1000kg towing limit whereas the Knaus, or most Eribas wouldn't. Lunar Ariva is also in this weight - price - size segment too.

We're getting the BaseCamp sometime in November and plan to get away in it asap. Looking forward to trying out all the gadgets and the awning.
Will keep you posted.
Did it arrive on time? Have you usedit? If not why not? Update please

Weight isn't an issue for us hence me saying the knaus would be better for us. Potential 450kg payload in the Knaus. Four times the payload of the basecamp.
If we move to a crossover then payload will be critical. We want a toy tugger.
I really like the basecamp and would consider one for solo trips but having two vans may be a luxury too far

We have two! One in France, and one here! Our French caravan is a year 2000 Swift, and the one here is a 2007 Adria. Luxury indeed!

Just seen this on the Swift website
https://www.swiftbasecamp.co.uk
No doubt the naysayer dinosaurs will be along to rubbish the very thought. There will be no where to fit the mattress topper and 32" TV & Sat Dish for goodness sake.
But I think Swift should be applauded for recognising the change that will be upon us before we know it. And the need to engage a younger clientele with ever smaller, lighter tow cars.
Whether we like it or not, this is the future, not getting bigger
8ft wide indeed !Well done Swift.
Now, where did I leave my surfboard and bike ?

Link now active.
Write your comments here...dont like to be a damp squib here BUT over the last 10 years or so there have been several FUN Caravans like this bought out, are they still being made ?? NO, because the target customer in most cases dont have the spare cash to buy them, rent them perhaps.I dont expect it to be around in 5 years or so.....any bets ?

These trendy vans will have to compete with Eriba Tab and Knaus....all superbly built evolved over several decades....I agree with rayjsj..they will not be in fashion for long..Nothing Swift build will come close in terms of durability altho I note they
have adopted their own version of the Hymer pual type of construction for these fashion items.Tj

I don't see them as fashion items
They are aimed squarely at a particular market that is not catered for very well. Toy tuggers are available but not common in the uk
Where the basecamp falls down is the load carrying ability but I guess it could be replated.

Not sure you are correct. The Base Camp is aimed at the Surf and Fun which seems to be a new market and many of the people involved do have the money. The people involved are unlikaly to go for the Eriba which does not have the style they want. It is largely
aimed at a market that values style above all else and quality is a very poor second to appearance and ease of purchase. My feeling is the style and far larger dealer availability will work in its favour over the immediate competitors.0
