2017 Elddis Xplore - Advice please Good and Bad.
Hi All, I have just ordered a brand new Xplore 574 twin single beds from my local dealer I would love some advice from my fellow caravanners. The van looks lovely, and it seems a shame not to go brand new for the extra couple of grand.
Anyone got any advice/experience please both good and bad?

This is a lovely van for the money. Spent 6 weeks in Scotland last Oct/Nov. Nice and warm. The beds are very comfortable and provide loads of storage underneath. The shower is excellent (we fitted an eco camel head). Bathroom has lots of cupboards
and space. Spent two months in France in May/June. Big front window open on hot nights, gave great ventilation. Suggest you purchase shelf pack. Dear, but doubles usable space in lockers. Also ask for free plate upgrade. You will load it up to its max easily,
with so much storage space. And that's one con. Check your nose weight. Took a bit of manoeuvring to get it right. We took ATC because of the length. Hubby reports it tows very smoothly, so hopefully it will never be needed. Interior fiinishnot the best, but
it is a budget van. Heating on low produced a high pitched whine. Hubby couldn't hear it, but I could. Researched and found that some owners had contacted Whale for a muffler. I didn't. I just ran the fan setting higher if it was really cold outside. All in
all, I'm sure you'll love it.0 -
Thanks so much for the review. Have ordered with ATC also, and a lot of other extras. Dealer said not to bother with shelves even though I had ordered a double pack. I will re order shelves tomorrow !! Not receiving until Jan . Many thanks. Have you done
any rallies without electric hookup? How did the fan cope off battery? Thanks again.0 -
the shelf pack comes with three shelves. But only two can be used, as the other lockers lack a divider panel to attach to. (If
you're handy, this can probably be overcome.) sorry haven't been off grid, so can't comment on that.0 -
We have an Eldis Xplore 586 (thjnk thst thr model number anyway) 6 birth. Single axle.
We have had a few quality issues with interior, nothing thst we can't fix ourselves, but had we known before we bought the van may not havd bought it. Main ones being the heating when on a medium setting started to melt the plastic runner that the slats for the double slide along one the sude where to vent for the heating was; the shower door doesn't look very water tight (the edging keeps falling off when towing even with the door tape together); if there is a drop in the electric supply the fridge us the first item to ve turned off, or if uou are parked on a slop with the van slightly tikted towards the opposite from thd fridge the door sometimes doesnt seal right causing the alarm to go off that the door is open; becareful when trying to freeze, very little will freeze in it, this we have discussed with other owners we have met, ready meals it will freeze, and some cyts of meat, but icecream, water cubes and numerous other thing dont freeze. (our dealer said ut was because the freezer compartment wasnt put in correctly when we removed it, but we hadnt realised the freezer comoartment was removeable so hadnt remived it.. they put it in 'corrdctly' but we still have issues with some freezing); minor quality issues include cupboard shelves are not very strongly attached (plastic shelp supports fall out or break easy); led roof lights tend to fall out of fixings if on abumpy road; curtains dont gave rail stoppers so fall off the rail when driving; the wall between bedroom abd bathroom as its at a slant is easily knocked from it's fixing with kids getting in and out of bed dure to tight space.
It's very light, which is why we bought it but this causes it to be easily swayed when towing by cross winds and passing HGV's, especially on motorways where speeds are higher. A couple of weekes ago on the way North from Looe, road was bysy, and a fair strong breeze meant Ken couldnt go above 45 without it swaying quite badly.
Only heavy item inside it was the awning, which we double checked was still across tge axle as recommended, evrything else packed evenly as always. So that wasnt the issue.
We've decided our next van will probbe twin axle and our next car a 4x4. These lighter caravans have their benefits but also their downsides as well.
Oh in closing not sure if its the same in your model but with our the floor was built then everything else was out togethsr by attachung it to the floor. This meant when two years ago when one of our wheels fell off while towing, causing a hole in the floor where the wheel should have been, the whole cravan had to be written off as it was cheaper to buy a new one than to have it fixed by removing everything including the outer shelff and all interior furniture out thrn building a new floor and then rebuilding evrything ba k as if it was fromscratch. Some thing ti bear in mind when choosing

Hi. Have you taken delivery yet? We ordered a 574 last September and have now had it for three weeks. We've taken it out for two cold and wet February weekends and have been very pleased with the van. It has been straightforward to tow and easy to set up even for a newbie. We certainly know that the heating and insulation work well as we were comfortable in the snow a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to longer trips and hopefully a visit to France later in the year.
Best of luck with it!
