...Before spending money and time on new pads ,get some brake cleaner spray fom a well known car parts and cycle store and give a good dose up into hitch head also ensure the hook on tow vehicle is also clean it may well solve the problem,Do NOT use WD40

Unless you've done mega miles, I'd be very surprised if your pads are in need of replacement.

Most common reason for the pads to sqeek is because of diesel engine in your tow vehicle, if they are not to contaminated they may clean and be OK for some time, but it depends on the engine. Many years ago we had a shogun that black smoked on the hills
and we had the same problem, were as the shogun we know have is a lot cleaner running and we have no problems with the pads.0 -
thank you for that we are going to get a brake spray and clean before purchasing new pads

Or they might need a rub down if marked or contaminated.....fine emory paper followed by a clean with the brake cleaner.
Removal and refitting is a 2 minute job.
Is your tow ball shiny, bare metal? It needs to be, and completely free of oil, grease, dirt, paint etc
