Unicorn Cadiz snaking
Has anyone experienced feeling of going to snake when overtaking a lorry at 60 mph...or if we are being overtaken... just doesn't feel right. Towcar is Sorrento, driver very experienced, loaded correctly..and tried different loading. ? Has anyone else experienced
similar?

We have a U2 Cadiz. Only time we have had a problem, was when white panel (van man) came past very close at circa 90mph ( we were doing 50 mph) on a down grade. However, what do you mean by feeling going to snake. Our previous van was 1 metre shorter and
200 KG less and the Cadiz feels very different to that when towing. Particularly in breezy conditions, I find it a much more stable tow at 55 to 58 mph. However, to answer your question no I don't feel it is going to snake.0 -
Some lorries can produce a lot of air disturbance. Coming back from France I pulled out to overtake a car transporter the van felt like it was all over the place to the extent that I stopped at the next aire and even checked the torque of the wheel bolts.
Next day we were behind a transporter on an A road and you could see the amount of disturbance it caused to the trees as it passed, tankers are also notorious for creating disturbed air. If you are happy with the loading Then I guess it is just one of those
things.0 -
Car transporters and tankers are the worst for turbulence.

I would get the A T C checked out I agree car transporters and tankers can cause havoc.

Outfits can handle very differently for no apparent reason. Check that nose weight is up around 90 kg.

Are your friction pads worn in the hitch stabiliser?

Is the driver 'very experienced' at driving or towing a caravan? Anything from a Transit van upwards will cause air turbulance that will affect your caravan and possibly cause some sway movement but nothing approaching a 'snaking' feeling. Tyre pressures
ok? Good luck hunting down the problem.0 -
Only felt the tow car go out of shape once when passing heavy vehicles. That was on the pressent tour when towing in a blustery wind and starting to overtake a large car transporter. I dropped back instead of overtaking. On the next tow with less wind I
overtook two transporters without problem but they do, when laden with cars, produce some strange vortices compared to a solid sided or curtained hgv or trailer0 -
i had trouble with the Vigo put more weight in the front no problems since ,I think that since no front locker the caravan is to light on the nose .

We have a Bailey Pegasus Ancona so quite long and around 1450kg, towed to south France this year and at different stages had different experiences, at times we were cruising at 60's with ease and over taking lorrys 10 to the dozen. However the first 50
miles or so in the flat opens we had to reduce our speed to 50 mph as the lorrys and wind were giving the van some really feedback Even when they over took us And this was simply the weather conditions.Seeing the notes above we have 85-90kg nose weight and 9/10 times tows really well. We get the odd twitch day were we natrually slow down and drive to within the conditions.
Also as you are experienced I am sure it's not the loading but we always pack up around the axle and make the boot of the car reasonable weighted. With the nose weight seems to make for reasonable towing.
Good luck hope you resolve the issue no happy vanning!

We have had a Cadiz for two years and never experienced snaking or anything that would give us concern, so don't think it is the van. In fact it is the best one we have had for towing. OH does load the boot and the awning goes further back in the van. He
is very careful about weight distribution. Could it be a weight distribution problem?0 -
I towed with an10 plate 2.0 Sri Insigina for 4 years and even with current van at 1450kg never had a snake. Traded it in bought 15 Sorento and had hell of snake on the A1 first time out.
Always waiting for next espisode. Wondered if it is the self levelling suspension.
Van is 2014 with IDC
