Truma Ultrastore electric boiler wiring

Could anyone please help with my faulty boiler. It's the 850 / 1400 Watt element model. I thought I had killed the element when it stopped working at the start of the season. I've just got round to changing the element but to my dismay found it's still not
heating the water. I was extra careful to make sure the boiler was full before switching on so doubt it's the overheat cutoff. I've confirmed that power is getting to the element although I don't have my multimeter with me as I'm away in the van at the moment.

The three black wires from the two position switch are showing live to the element but I'm not sure how the switch controls the element power by these three wires. Is anybody familiar with the wiring to these boilers that could please help me diagnose whether
it's a faulty switch or a dead out of the box element. They are the only two parts in the system from what I can see.

First thing I would do is buy a cheap meter!  I assume you are using a neon tester?  If you have 3 wires to the heater element, and all three are showing 'live' ... then you are missing the neutral connection.

    The wiring diagram is
    here
on page 13. It appears to put a 850w element in parallel witha 450w to give 1300w (not 1400w).  Sadly no indication of the  actual 'circuit' within the heater element between the 'control unit' and the mains supply. Typical proprietary approach. You
can of course work it out!

Vicmallows thanks for the help. Yes it was a neon I was using but I'm back home now so will check it out with my meter tomorrow.

The diagram in your link suggests that wire 1 is neutral and wires 2 and 3 are lives but I'll see what I find tomorrow.
