Do any of you readers of the forum think that there is any value in fitting a rear view camera to the rear of the caravan for overtaking purposes espcially for checking that you are safely clear of the overtaken vehicle (lorries)? and if so, would it be
fairly straightforward to wire in?

I have fitted a wireless rear view camera. I have replied to other threads on this subject so use Google to search for them ( you still never find them with the forum search engine!)

I find the camera a great safety aid when on the motorway and also when reversing into my pitch.

My wireless one was easy to fit. The camera is fitted to a home made bracket which is attached to the underside of the rear caravan valence. The transmitter is at the front of the van wired into the battery with a cable under the van joining the two. The
receiver is under my car seat. I have posted this from a 12v socket that was easy to get too and the screen is on a bracket at the lower right of my windscreen.

    Try

Thanks for the reply Simon. It is encouraging to know that the camera is good for overtaking as that is the main reason for me asking. I will slowly go through your answer and take the appropriate action.

there are usually other pointers/guides to let you know when it's safe to pull in eg shadows on the ground, either from your outfit of the overtaken vehicle. You soon get the hang of it without a camera

I agree with everything that you said MM  (despite you not being FAA)! and should not have much problem with it as I have done HGV driving. Just to make life a bit easier I suppose is my attitude. I have looked for the shaddows (not Cliff and the Shaddows)
but as yet I have not been in a position to use that system. I suppose that I should drive in the sunshine more!

We have a Garmin Camper 660 sat nav,(nearly same as the one in cc mag except less than half the price) and there is a wireless camera (add cost) that i site in bathroom window of c/van that works fine for us when needed, but tend to forget to look at it as you will soon get used to length of your outfit when on the road
