We have discovered a leak on the Carver water heater in our (recently purchased) Compass Rallye GTE 400/2.  We have discovered it is coming from where the electrics are  Does anyone have any idea if it is an easy fix - ie a seal or if it is best left to
the experts?

Water  &  Electrics  ==>  get  the  experts  at  it  ==>  you  should  get  a  guarantee  on  their  work.

Thinking  of  guarantees,  did  one  come  with  your  caravan  ??Undecided

No, no guarantee, purchased from a private seller. We have had the van serviced since we bought it.

You may have problems finding spares for this heater as I believe it has been out of production for a number of years. However many of the caravan dismantlers should have heaters they have removed. There is a quite large used spares stockists at Reighton
Gap just off the coast road between Filey & Bridlington. When I called in their to pick up a water pump last year they had a lot of these water heaters in the store which had been taken out of caravans. I believe they also fit parts. You may find other similar
    stock on the internet.

If the water is dribbling out of the upper pressure release valve (rapid drain) externally, it can make its way in through the burner unit. Sometimes the valve becomes blocked with carbon from a charcoal filter, or even limescale, if it is not used often.
Might be worth pressurising the system (without turning the 230V heater on!) and seeing where exactly the water is coming out.

Another option is that the overheat plug might have failed.

My one did that and it was corrosion inside the tank around the bolts holding the imersion heater into the tank. The parts are available but if you are not into DIY it may be worth getting a mobile engineer to look at it and posiably fit a new
    Henry.
