Using purple Status TV antenna and power pack.
Hi everyone,
I wonder if you can help me. I have just brought a caravan and it is fitted with a purple Status saucer type ariel. I have conected my TV to it and scanned for a picture but got nothing at all. Do I need a freeview box inline for this to work or do I need
the newer Orange ariel set up? Thank you for your advice.

Unless you are in a very good signal area, you may not get an adequate signal with a 'saucer' aerial at all. IMHO they are are total waste of roof space. With digital you either get a useable signal or nothng at all .....not like the old analogue signal
which, even though poor, you could watch if you really wanted to.If we really want TV, I rig a conventional aerial on a pole pointing at the best transmitter.

Speaking with over thirty years experience using an omnidirectional 'saucer' aerial,I have rarely had a problem with them.

You have the "old" purple Status, this has its amplifier built into the aerial itself, the in van box is only there to feed it power and extract the signal. You can't mix this with any of the new red kit or independant amplifiers. The red status aerial is
just an aerial, and the in van box an amplifier; alternative amplifiers can be used with this aerial. If yours does not work it could be either the box or the amplifier itself. Changing bits or carefully checking the wire joints is your only option in repairing that; parts are now thin on the ground so your options are limited.

I had a Glomex saucer aerial and had a very good signal although to be fair it was at the top of a 40ft mast on a yacht.
