Freezer on the blink

Help please all you experts!!!

I'm away at the moment and freezer has lost freezing ability. All contents have thawed.  Blue light to fridge is on when door opened so this suggests EHU power and fuse OK (yes?). Not tried it on gas yet as I don't really want to do this. Any ideas on what
could be wrong and advice on what I could do to solve the problem? Fridge is 3 yrs old and lives in a Bailey Unicorn series II.

Many thanks in advance,

Glutenfree2008

I have heard people experiencing problems if the caravan is not level enough but presume yours is not excessively out. Below is a guide from a CC web page which looks at the problem. I would however give it a try on gas which is generally  gives a better cooling performance just to see if it works.

' Most older refrigerators (built prior to about1986) should be levelled before use. The evaporator shelf in the freezer compartment is the best place to do this, either with a spirit level or a cup of water. More modern refrigerators are ‘tilt tolerant’ (all Thetford models to 3 degrees, and Dometic (Electrolux) to 6 degrees) so the need to level is not as critical.'

Two possible suggestions.  The light is 12v so has your 240v power gone off?  The other would be to turn the temp down.  I would recommend you turn on the gas operation asap till you figure out what is going on as the fridge temp will also be increasing.

It sounds like the 240v supply has failed, the blue light is 12v have you 240v on other areas of van, turn fridge to gas asap

I am not sure about the two posts above as the blue light flashes if the selected supply is not being delivered. The blue light goes to constant if it has the chosen supply is present.

Tirril,  I think there is some confusion here.  As I understand it, we are talking about the light inside the fridge?

We also have a 3 year old Bailey Unicorn, so probably the same fridge.  There is no light on the outside of the fridge, and nothing that flashes to indicate whether or not the chosen supply is present.

I have a Unicorn Barcelona S1 2012 model so I am not sure if the fridge freezer unit changed with the S2 which is 3 years old. On my model you have the on/off and supply option switches located on the front edge of the outer shelf between the fridge and freezer. There is a visible blue led which flashes or is constant as mentioned above to confirm what is/or is not, switched on. This light is not the same as the one used to illuminate the fridge contents. However I understand your point - just that the OP refers to a blue light which suggested to me he means the led power light. Hopefully he will clarify. Many thanks

    Hi Tirril,

No, there is no blue led on series 2.  The only light is the one used to illuminate the fridge contents.

I have the Seville model so the Dometic fridge contains a freezing compartment. This is where the problem lies.  The blue light I refer to is that which comes on when the fridge door opens and is situated by the door latches/hooks. The on/off switch is on
the front top panel in a dial that includes selectors for gas, mains, battery, gas. Dial further to the right is temp adjuster and gas igniter.  Mains electric works and all lights, sockets and alde central heating/hot water are functional. One point of note,
electric supply did trip out 30 mins after connecting to EHU. All power was lost. Based on comments above, maybe this has blown the fuse for the fridge even though everything else is working OK. Just fired up the gas and indicator/galvanometer on the front
has moved into the green indicating the fridge is operational

Has your mains element possibly failed?

Just checked my Unicorn S1 Barcelona (different model Dometic fride) just to confirm that if the 5amp fuse is pulled out of the mains switch box then the blue led and also the fridge illumination light is cut off. As your fridge light is working then clearly
that fuse is ok. However I just went on line and there are several posts that some Dometic fridges are wired to the  240 volts supply via a 13amp plug installed in a nearby cupboard and that the usual fuse is replaced with a much lighter one. If that is the
case here and that fuse has gone then the fridge will not work but the 12 volt system would still provide the illumination. It would be worth looking to see if this applies to the S2. Good luck.
