We've purchased from new about a dozen caravans in the last 50 years. Our Fendt, the most recent one, is by far the best quality with zero faults and very well built. If you visit the top sites in Europe you'll see that the Fendt 'vans out number all others.
    No contest really.

Actually the most popular are Hobby. They are the largest manufacturer by far. Fendt do seem to have a good reputation though

I haven't a clue which is best but a site we stayed on in Germany was also the dealership of 'Dethleff'. Looking inside of these caravans, the layouts and finish was way better than mine.

German caravans do seem to be well made. We have found the layouts and styling often do not appeal to us but these are personal opinions and layouts are what suits you.

If you are spending 7-14k I guess you are looking at secondhand sorry pre loved Happy

The truth is that most caravans are screwed together from the same list of bought in parts  A caravan manufacturer is therefore mainly an assembler of standard parts   They actually make very little

It is in my mind  best to keep an open mind and buy on condition.  If you do your research on the net you will see that certain caravans seem to have specific faults. Knowing this it allows you look for any specific issues.  Rather than recommending any
    specific brand.

Saying that our last three caravans have been foreign (Hymer's) but from this thread I have learnt that this reveals some sort of inner failing on my part.

I forgot to add another point re the twin axle preference. A tyre blow-out on a single could create a problem when having to change the tyre in what could be a dangerous position. At least with a twin I could get to a safe place.

I have always felt safer with a TA for this reason too. However, care is needed 'getting to a safe place.' The remaining tyre is rated to support approx one quarter of the vans weight plus a margin of 10-20%. This means that on its own its carrying some
50% of the van's weight and therefore seriously overloaded. So hopefully you be able to stop safely and move to a safe position, but nothing more, unless you want another blow out.

An Allegro a 'cute' car?! Surprised You obviously never owned/drove one...... They were a travesty of what could and should have been.....
Speechless.....Sealed Look on AROnline website for some of the canned designs by BL in the 60's/70's - it willbring tears to your eyes at the
wasted design talent. Sorry to the OP for the thread topic drift....

I bought one at auction. BL and aggro sums it up perfectly. Couldn't sell it at any price. Traded it in eventually and went back to and have stuck with Ford ever since.
