Motor mover problems again, deep sigh

hi I bought by buccaneer  last last year and stored it till Apr I towed it to south of France and had problems with remote a new one was sent out by the makers, now problem I have is the motor mover will not engage when I operate the spindle it will not
lock in place, I spoke with the engineer who says wheel should be about 25 mm from the tyre, mine is 40 mm. if this was correct the mechanism would lock into place but sort of the tyre, mine contacts the tyre but will not lock!! Any suggestions please.

    If the "engineer "says it should be 25mm and your gap is bigger it may be the m/mover frame has moved, as the bolts were tight enough thereby not allowing it to lock

    Move the movers.....ours need to be 20mm from the tyres.

    Get ready for a few hours of sweating and cursing though......it's a pig of a job.

    Thanks trouble is we living in it at mo awning fixed etc so may have to look when we move on. Still not make scense to me though, I will check over vans on site first and ask few questions,

    i have been under in the sand! and had a look see how it moves looks fun.

    I had a similar problem and as soon as the gap was corrected to 25mm all worked fine. It is important to get the correct torque setting on the fixing bolts as too loose and it will move, overtighten and you could damage the bolt/threads. Also important to
    make sure batteries in remote are in good condition.

    Having installed my mover, this is not difficult stuff. The main issue is having enough clearance to get underneath. Once you can get shoulders past the chassis rails, its not so bad. Raise the van at whichever end you need to work on (legs down please)
    - even a little extra clearance helps.

    If there are locating plates make sure these are snug up against the chassis. If U bolts are employed, again make sure they as close as possible to the chassis, so that there is no room for play/movment to develop

    Trevor, I believe the rollers lock once they feel a certain amount of resistance from the tyre. Your mover is too far away from the tyre to apply said resistance. This suggests the mover has slid along the chassis, so the locking bolts must not be tight
    enough. Try obtaining a 25mm thick object & ask someone to hold this against the tyre, then gently tap the mover along the chassis on alternate sides until the rollers squeeze the object between them & the tyres. Then tighten the locking bolts. Remember, gently
    does it - bit by bit on each side alternately. You should be able to do this even with the awning up - just remove the side skirt for a bit.

    I used a wedge of wood (old doorstop) with a line drawn on it at the correct clearance, with the mountings loosened off it was then quite easy to insert the wedge between roller and tyre and use a rubber mallet to tap (OK, whack!) the mounting back until
    the correct gap was achieved.  

    The rollers are held against the tyres by 'spring' tension applied by distorting the tyre - as has been said, there needs to be resistance against the roller as you engage it, to allow the mechanism to 'over cam' or it will just return.
