Avante/Affinty ice box removal
We have an Affinity 550 which Elddis states that the ice box can be removed from the fridge which provides larger fridge storage when an ice 'box' is not needed. However we have tried to remove the freezer section but found that the curved door of the fridge
makes contact with the end of the bench seat not allowing the door to open far enough to allow the ice box to be removed.
Anyone managed to remove the ie box?

No, same problem cannot even get shelves out to reposition. Compass Omega 482.

I wonder if the designers actually go and look at their product or just stay in the offices without actually looking at the caravans?
Seems the Elddis designers must have missed these faults and not told their publicity department that their brochures are wrong and mislead the consumers.

We're the same as you, the curved door won't open fully, in our Swift Challanger. The shelves aren't easy to remove either. Luckily, we do use the ice box, finding it very useful. Your next discovery may be that the fridge is very, very slow to chill in
hot weather, it struggles to drop to 5deg. We fitted auxiliary cooling fans to the condenser grill, to help. Overall, it's not an ideal installation.0 -
I suppose we can take the vans back to the dealers when we want the ice box/shelves moving and have them either take the fridge out or remove the blocking seating and then go back when it needs changing.
I wonder how many will offer this free of charge service?

it looks like the identical fridge and kitchen layout as my challenger 570, i get mine out by removing the two retaining catches under freezer compartment then open freezer compartment door until it is horizontal. and with fridge door open at 90degrees to
fridge the freezer unit just slides out past the door and shelves. Hope thats of some use?0 -
Thanks Jeff, however the designers at Elddis in their wisdom (or lack of it) didnt allow for the fridge door to open wide enough as the curved front makes contact with the end of the seat bench end thus when trying to remove the ice box it then fouls against
the moulded plastic on the inside of the door.0 -
So Trini it wont even open 90 degrees from closed position.
Mine has the same curved door and it also catches on bed base but at least just opens far enough for it to be slid out between the racking on the door. ( And the Design of the year goes to!!!)

We have a Bailey Pegasus with the new narrow Dometic fridge and the curved door and it is dificult to remove the freezer as it opens against a doorway, but if it not to inconvenient you can turn the fridge door round according to Dometic handbook

Recently taken delivery of a Compass Rallye 482
Same problem
Have thought of reversing door opening but this will be more inconvenient when trying to access from cooking area
Make room for extra ice cubes for the G & T's

Its not a reversible door, otherwise we might have done that.
