Warranty recall notification needed

I have a three year old Swift and during my annual service the mobile engineer notified me that during servicing he had checked whether my caravan had evidence of a fault on the rear panel which apparently Swift had issued notification of some many weeks
ago. My query is, had I not had an annual service being done I would have not been aware of this need for inspection and subsequent warranty work as neither Swift directly so, or indeed my supplying dealer , had contacted me as the owner since new, that this
fault may be present. The issue is not a life threatening one but I wonder how an owner is notified, if at all, in the likelyhood of a major issue arising needing immediate attention.

If it is a recall, then Swift would have notified the relevant authorities and they or your main dealer should have wrote to you direct as a legal requirement of a manufacturers recall, however if it is a service campaign/ check they do not have to inform
the authorities and therefore you may not receive notification as this is not a legal requirement.
