Bailey Monarch snaking problem

Good morning, I have towed my  2006 Bailey Monarch with a Honda CRV for 10 years without one instance of snaking. I now have a VolvoV70 2.4 diesel and towed  the first time this last weekend and had two instances of snaking. It was windy, my tyre pressures
were fine, the van was loaded correctly. However I have never replaced the friction pads in the Alco hitch and was wondering if anyone could advise. Thanks,

I'm on my phone so can't do links.

Have a look on Youtube, I'm sure there's a video or 2 showing how they're fitted, though I suspect that new pads won't solve your problem.

Thank you, I think you may be right. I had the pads  replaced and the car is still witchy. Going to have the rear suspension checked and if ok fit  spring assistor's.

Sounds like a back to basics with loading (and overall mass), tow ball loading, tyre pressures, tow ball height etc (what is the etc?)

I'd tend to do all of this before fitting anything additional to car or van. IMHO you shouldn't need a stabiliser hitch or anything else on car or van to keep van steady at up to the legal limit in good weather conditions? Your suspension check etc is a good idea if car is old (or even if new?)

Also dont forget that your Honda had less rear overhang than your Volvo V70 and this will add slightly to the feeling of instability, As DougS says check everything else first before you start replacing things. (including tyre type and construction/wear
if the vehicle is not new)
