Trauma Water Filter Housing Leak

My caravan has a  Truma water filter housing which requires the filter to be changed periodically. When I initially took delivery of the caravan the filter needed to be fitted which I did for the first trip out. Although it is a simple job to fit I found
it very difficult to stop a small leak from under the filter retaining cap although I did managed to do this by tightening the cap VERY tight. It only leaks whilst the pum is running. When I replaced the filter the leak has become worse and no amount of tightening
will stop it, no matter how tight I screw the cap on. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, was there a "cure"?

The cap has a round section "O" ring in it but, in my opinion it seems far too small in section. A flat section ring would, I think, have been a better design.

I've spoken with Truma who were unable to suggest why it leaks but have suggested a replacement housing under warranty but I may not have time to get this done before my next trip.

I had a similar problem with my previous van but on the pump plug in connection. I smeared it, on advice, from someone on here with silicone grease and it then went in easier and stopped leaking. You could try that on the O ring.

Thanks, Justus2. I have tried vegetable oil (as recommended by Truma for smearing on the pump plug), but this made absolutely no difference.

Title should, of course, have read TRUMA- it isn't quite a trauma !

    Hi All.

I have a 2014 Coachman Pastiche with a Truma Filter housing. Caravan bought from new. Since purchasing I have had 4 new housing fitted at an average cost of £150 each time. I smear with veg oil and am extremely careful when fitting the plug. Ive had 2 so far this year.

Contacted Truma out of frustration to be told:

"It's normally the water pressure that causes the crack!" ( Like buying wellies and told not to go in the rain with them)

Second reason was that the plug was too big! ( Really)

I was advised by Truma to return it to them and they would test to see if water pressure had cracked it ( How do you test for pressure without a sealed unit. Beyond me.

Not hopeful of a positive response. Probably be told I was pitched near atree with the wrong type of leaves growing on it.

Just get rid of the filter, it serves no useful purpose.

I have the same problem but have solved it by putting the "o" ring on the outside of the housing not in the cap.

Had this problem, due to a crack caused by frost. I removed the filter after replacing until and it never happened again. After getting through a couple of pumps I only used Thetford silicon spray on the o rings and housing. Never had any more problems.
