Tyron bands

Hi, No doubt this subject has been talked about before. I have just had new tyres fitted to my caravan wheels which have Tyron bands. The tyre fitter wasn't over happy but he agreed to do them. I asked him to balance them and he replied it would take too
many weights to be acceptable. I didn't understand this as Tyron claim that wheels will balance with bands fitted. I didn't argue the point as he wasn't in the best of moods. Has anyone else had experience of balancing wheels with bands fitted ? Thanks

    Looking t the design of the Tyron bands, I would imagine balancing would be extremely difficult.

    I have had them from the mid 1980s and always had the wheels balanced after they were fitted. Sometimes it takes a lot of weights, sometimes it does not.

    I have never tried to test whether the amount of weights needed, large or small were uniquely accreditable to the bands or the tyres.

    Reading the OP it seems the issue is the fitter not the product.

    Thanks for your replies. My thoughts are that i wouldn't lose anything by trying to get them balanced. If they can't do it they can't. But if they do it has got to be better than nothing.

    If he is right that it will take too many weights then two things are clear;

    It's desperately is in need of balancing.

    The probability is the fitting is botched as the bands should not if correctly centred and the gaps set equal, themselves put the wheel balance out.

     I suspect the gaps not being set equal if the balance is poor, it is all too easy if incompetent.

    I have just had new tyres fitted with Tyron bands and the wheels were balanced, one did take quite a large weight on one side, but nothing too extreme.  Actually the effect of the bands is probably less than one would expect as they are pretty central in
    the rim and close to the axis of rotation, so any weight anomoly will have less effect than, say, a heavy 'patch' from overlapping plies in the tread section.

    Hi, just an update. Have had wheels with Tyron bands balanced this morning, No problems. No more weights were needed than a normal car tyre. I took them to a local garage and the mechanic couldn't understand why the tyre fitter wouldn't do them. Any way
    all is looking good now. Thanks

    I think its just the time required to remove the bands before replacing the tyree, then refitting the bands, Time is money I suppose
