Bailey Unicorn 3 Damp
Just had the first service done on my Bailey Unicorn Series 3 Valencia and significant damp discovered in the whole rear half of the floor ie, all the bathroom, under the bed and all the way forward to the door/kitchen area for the complete width of the
van. Dealer does not seem to have any idea on the source of the water ingress. They originally suggested the shower but we have never used it in this caravan. With the absence of any damp check figures or report from delivery, it's even possible the damp has
existed from day one!
Still waiting for a way ahead but looks like the may wish to take it back to Bailey for investigation/repair. Bearing in mind these caravans are constructed "from the ground up", how can they replace the floor without dismantling the whole caravan?
A defect of this magnitude is not something you want in a van that's barely a year old. Even if a repair is effected, surely it's resale value is seriously compromised. Can the manufacturer be forced to provide a replacement?
Anyone else had similar probs?

Did they check all the water connections to the shower, wash basin, sink. We bought a new Elddis in 2009 and when we filled the water system the first evening at home water poured out across the wash room floor from behind a panel. On removing the panel
I found that one of the pipe connectors had not been fitted properly and the joint was loose causing a serious water leak. Just a suggestion.0 -
Sorry to hear that. We had a severe damp problem on our Valencia S2 which was caused by poor sealing around the floor join. Six months after they replace a large floor section we had more damp so it went back to the factory twice for another section to be
replaced. This affected both front and rear of the van. We ended up trading it in for a motorhome because we could not sell it privately, even at near trade price.Be aware that it is likely to be several weeks before they can take it and they may keep it for several weeks. Although damp was discovered early in the season we scheduled the repair for end of season which they were OK with.
Provided you sell within the warranty period and you service it on schedule then it will not affect the trade-in price but it is hard to explain away in a private sale. The dealer of course doesn't have to say anything when he resells it.

Write your comments here... How are you finding the change from Caravan to MH? I've been toying with changing but OH is not so keen
We have a s2 Valencia had some damp issues on two of the services, the last one was clear. Hoping the next one in July is clear too!

They must sell hundreds upon hundreds of these vans it must be a very small % of vans that actually leak, doesn't help the op out though....my unicofrn 3 went in for first service in February a water trace under
the front locker floor was traced to a faulty water inlet housing thankfully dried out now and sorted with no problems as yet there has been several noted leaks to the rear via shower tray or faulty locker doors which may be your problem.0
