Leaking cistern on Thetford loo

Hi

We're new to caravanning and bought a 2008 Bailey Senator in September.  We've taken it out 3 times for short weekends and ensured the system was all drained properly for the winter.  We've just started a long trip away and the cistern on the loo seems to
be leaking.  We first noticed blue water coming out the bottom of the toilet.  We've established that the problem is not in the bowl or the casette by removing the casette, completely draining the cistern and then pouring a little water into the cistern filling
hole on the outside.  The water is coming through into the locker where the casette sits and that's then running through the van onto the floor.

Any idea what the problem might be or how to fix?  We bought the van with a warranty but are currently in mid wales and not returning home for 3 months.  For now we're manually flushing the loo using a watering can.

Do you put blue chemical in your flush system? The additive for the header tank is usually pink. If I had a leak with my header tank the escaping water would be pink, not blue. I assume there must be a pipe to carry the flushing water from the bottom of the tank to the bowl, but I have never searched to see if there is access to the pipe.

Are there any caravan dealers within reasonable travelling distance from you? Many years ago I took my caravan from a site to a caravan dealership in Machynlleth for some repairs, and then towed back to the site.

Look at the bung in the drain tube (black rubber tube tucked up on a plastic "shelf" just inside the compartment.

In addition to the bung check the other end of the drain tube where it pushes up onto the bottom of the cistern, this is only a rubber push on connection and comes off fairly easily. Thetford recommend you don`t travel with water in the cistern probably
    for that reason.

I have a Senator just a year older and they dont have the pipe for draining any more, just a plug which you pull out which runs into what ever you use to tip away, Like Nuggy posted I'd be worried that the leak is blue unless the op is putting blue loo in
the flush tank I'd say either the seal is leaking and needs replacing or the tank somehow is damaged, you can buy a refresh kit which includes a new tank and a few other things, google thetford cassettes and check out your model.

Turned out is was the blue plastic pump at the bottom of the cistern which was cracked. £40 for the part and easily fitted. We're using Elsan Organic and the bottle says we can use in the cassette and flush (more diluted in the cistern) hence the blue water.
Thanks for your help and to the very good mobile caravan servicing engineer at Fforest Fields who had a van full of spares!

Thanks for posting the result, nice to know it is fixed. Knowing the outcome might help others if a similar problem arose. The only thing is, how did he get access to the pump?
