Not sure if this is the right place but here goes.

Bought a new caravan mid January and dealer said he would send off Cris documents. So far we have not received anything from Cris and an e-mail asking about it has so far gone unanswered.

Question is is this normal or should I be getting worried.

Never bought a new van before.

Mike

Two years ago in March we got our new caravan and within 3 weeks the CRIS documents arrived in the post, 3 months does seem excessively long so are you sure your dealer did actually apply for them?

Write your comments here...They said they had when I asked why I hadn't got the documents yet.Perhaps I'd better phone Cris instead of e-mailing as they don't seem to answer them.

Should have been within a couple of weeks.  However CRIS are changingthe document and having holograms and other security measures attached so it may be something do do with that but I would call dealer and CRIS for explanation to make sure you are the registered
    owner.

Oh well just phoned Cris and have got an answer. They know I bought a caravan, they know what it is,trouble is they can't find the VIN No.obviously Elddis have not given it to them so they can't verify it.Perhaps I'll change my name to the phantom caravaner.

Give Cris a call our dealer had filled in the old format paper work on our traded in Van so new van could not be registered.  Sorted out within 48 hours of phone call.

Got my new van in November 2015, dealer did say it could take a long time, not got it yet. Elddis (Compass) will be giving the dealer a ring.

After nearly three months (last year) and no documents I phoned CRIS direct.

They claimed that it had been registered but someone had 'forgotten' to press the print button!

When we chased ours after several months, we then received 3 copies in rapid succession. At the bottom of each was a statement to look after it, as replacement copies would cost. I think it might take me a while too loose 3.

Wouldn't it better if you checked with CRIS first as no one on the forum can help you?  Maybe the dealer forgot to send off the documents?  We have always found CRIS to be prompt with documents.

Three caravans back, we purchased a four yr old Elddis Whirlwind, when we went to register it with Cris, it came back as number registered on another Whirlwind. It turned out that 2 vans were sold and registered by the dealer (Mendip Caravans) on the same
day, somehow both were registered with the same number. Elddis records were showing as our van was never sold. Got it sorted, but shows that mistakes can be made.

I thought that the numbers were allocated by the manufacturers, the dealer only handles the supplied paperwork.

My thanks to the OP for raising this.  It caused me to check all the paperwork relating to our Barcelona which we bought new at the end of December 2014.  I don't have a CRiS registration document and have checked with the CRiS website to see what they look
like.  Since it's got the CRiS sticker on one of the windows, never thought any more about it.

Needless to say, I will be ringing them later today - looks like I might be another one where they forgot to press the print button!

Just an update on my earlier post - I have just rung CHRiS and was told that a document was sent out last January and that there was no indication of errors at their end.  Despite the fact that I have definitely not received it - and the call-handler didn't
dispute this - I have had to pay £10 for a duplicate document which should arrive by 1 May. Not only did I not receive the original registration document, I certainly do not have the 'wallet card' which should have accompanied it.

If it doesn't arrive this time, I am to ring them again.  Cynical me is wondering whether or not they will attempt to obtain another £10Money Mouth

Ours came through in about three weeks. If it is missing it is difficult to be sure where it was lost but my suspicion would be it was not sent out. Legally however you cannot prove it and at £10 you have no option but to pay up.

While cris is an excellent tool, they can be rather slow and when called on the phone they like to make silly excuses and pass the buck. My recent experience when enquiring about checking and registering an imported outfit I'd purchased from america must
have took them on a bad day as they tried to tell me the outfit didn't exist. After listening to some musac for 10 minutes consulting a supervisor, I was told that for £60 they would do a check but couldn't gaurantee it's credibility.

    Make your own judgement.

Everything is now done online and just clicking on a few buttons.  I had to input nearly 1,000 personal tax forms to the HMRC within a month (ie, by end of January), and I succeeded with time to spare.  So if that can be done, I'm sure CRIS can do a few
