I made your link active but there seems to be an issue as it takes you to an 'Error' page.

I think this might be what you were trying to show.  Try this link.

Thank you Jill that's the link. Does anyone recommend any other silicone besides this one.

Jillwithajay. You seem to have picked up the space after the link in the OP when making it clickable, which is why it now gets an error message. No common sence these comuters!

Try Pledge or such furniture spray. We used it for yers on plastic kitchen drawer runners ans was very good (& cheaper than silicone sprays)

Just double click on a word in your post - usually write "here" for where you want the link to go. Once it is highlighted look at the top of the box where you write the post and the little chain symbol (between the B and I and smiley face) will be available
    - just click on that and paste in the web address you want the link to go to. It is good practice to use the "target" option to set the link to open in a new window - sounds more complicated than it is when you write it down!

In addition to a silicone spray, I clean the rail with a small brush which is made specifically for awning rails. It is amazing how many spiders, their webs and egg sacs fill the rails and partially block the channel.

I bought a cheap silicone furniture cleaning spray from Morrisons for about 39p, perfectly adequate.

I used a silicone spray i bought  from my caravan dealer it works perfectly and lasts for  the season in my case 12 months . Idid try furniture spray previously but found it worked when i first did it but then became very sticky and i had a job to clean
    out the awning rail

The trouble i have is the porch awning is very tight to start going into the awning rail, it needs to be wider i have asked the dealer if they could open it up a little but was told the tool they use would take the paint of the rail. This is why i was asking
about the silicon spray. Would it do any damage to the fabric on the awning if it got onto it.

Write your comments here...If the awning rail cannot be made a little wider, can the awning beading be made a little narrower? Try putting it on a block of wood and tapping it with a hammer to narrow off the width. Inside the beading I think it is only a
nylon cord. You could try it for the first 12 inches and see if it makes any difference.

Many of the polish sprays with silicone do go sticky over time and can/will mark fabrics. The silicone sprays does not mark fabrics and don't go sticky (I make and fit curtains for a living and we often spray silicone onto difficult fabric to help sewing)

However, unless you use awning rail stoppers I would be cautious about using too much silicone, especially if the awning slides easily once in the rail. Without stoppers the awning could slide sideways with strong wind. (If I use too much on curtains rails
they can move too freely) As has been already suggested, perhaps the initial part of the awning rail just needs opening a little.

Notwithstanding my earlier penny pinching suggestion I would also try and buy a product with a tube to direct the spray into the awning track.

I agree with Nuggy, get the small brush for cleaning out the rail, you will be surprised what comes out.

Yes silicone spray in addition to above, easy peasy.
