Gurgling expansion tank on alde heating

we just collected our 8 month old Bailey Unicorn Vigo, I test it out for one night and discovered that the Alde expansion tank located in a wardrobe next to the bed makes a loud gurgling noise every time the system kicks in to adjust the temperature, this
did actually keep me awake. We phoned the dealer up and says this is normal, it's supposed to make a noise and that I won't hear it when there are clothes in the wardrobe, clearly this cannot be correct! Has anyone any experience of this before I take the
matter further

Mine used to make a knocking noise when it started. This was caused by the rotor blades catching on the side of the tank. I cured it by loosening the knurled nut on the top and centralising the motor. This might be something else to try.

If you top up when the system is warm don't fill to any more than the max level, or if the system is cold to the minimum level. Too much coolant in the tank will cause it to leak out of the top when warm.

If the OP has not got an in header circulating pump, as I expect with a Bailey is the case, then there are no rotor blades in the header to impact the sides.

IMO by far the most likely is that the PDI was lackadaisical and the boiler mounted pump has been left on its system purging speed setting rather than its in service speed setting. That is even assuming it was ever PDI and properly purged at all before being released.

See, if the boiler pump is on setting #2 as it should be; a mirror might be needed if awkward to view.

On each pump start up there will be some inevitable instability on the flow and so the header untill a steady state flow is established. If the pump is running far too fast this will be more violent, so noisy till the flow stabalises.

Our Barcelona has done this - now and again since we got it last year.  I think it tends to be on start up when it hasn't been used for a while but stops after a couple of minutes.  I'm inclined to agree with your dealer in that when the wardrobe is full
of clothes, you can't hear it.

We have used the van extensively and never had a problem with the heaing system which I have found to be extremely efficient.

On our Cadiz it is located on the side of the boiler, which is under the off side front seat. It is fairly obvious in our case and the dial can be easily seen, although the numbers can be difficult to read.   Our header tank, also in the wardrobe, is normally almost silent. Although you can see the fluid moving about, your ear has to be close to the tank to hear anything. The only time we have had it gurgling, was after having the fluid changed. They clearly had not got rid of all the air from the system.  After I opened the bleed valve on the bathroom towel rail and ejected it, the gurgling ceased. Although I did then have to top up the fluid as it went below the minimum value.

We had this problem.  The cure for us was air in the system.  Once the system was blead and the header tank filled to the correct level, 1cm above the minimum line, no more noise.

Depends what you mean by low. It should not be below the minimum, or you can end up with air in the system. Our handbook says to keep half way between max and min when cold. However, I find it is better close to minimum, otherwise a few drops seem to escape
somehow. I think via the overflow pipe, which has a poor seal.

it seems to drop to the minimum line not below then as it heats up it is a bout 1cm above the minimum, it does not drop lower when the van is on site even when cold so im assuming it must move about in the system via transit.

I have not noticed ours dropping much when traveling. Remember when on site it will never be truely cold, as even if you are only heating water, this will result in a little bit of expansion, although the fluid will not seem warm. Ours only goes back to
just above minimum when it has totally cooled down in storage, and even this is weather temperature dependent. As long as It is above the minimum line when cold, I would not be to concerned.

    Hi,

I had the same problem. the cause was found to be the pump speed too high. Reduce speed= silent nights
