We have recently changed our tow car from an Izuzu  truck to a Ford CMax.  We are getting a lot of snaking and we think we need a stabiliser.  Before we go and buy one what do other members use?

It is not as straight forward as that!.A stabiliser would maybe help, but you may have wear somewhere on the damper. I am not very good at these things but there are a lot than can give you good advice. I would try and find out why it is snaking first!.

Spot on there ADP. A stabiliser will only stabilise an otherwise well balanced outfit. Is your caravan too big/heavy for your CMax? Undecided

Also agree with above posts something fundamentally wrong with your outfit, stabilisers, ATC etc are only mean`t to assist a stable outfit and not control an unstable one. Try noseweight, overall weight suitability, weight distribution and  tyre pressures

The best stablizer I ever had was the leaf spring type. Much better than the built in things we have these days!

I can only support the comments that if your outfit is unstable then there is something funadamentaly wrong.  I would look at noseweight and tyre presuures  first as these are the easiest to solve.  Am I right that the C max kerb weight is 1634kgs? If so the 85% guide is 1389 kgs.  So what is the weight of your caravan?

use the stabiliser that is on the ball, they do pitching, roling and yawing, the old leaf spring ones only stop yawing

I agree that the implication of the question is can a stabiliser make a bad match better? For the question to be answered though I think we need to know which model of C Max you have and the make model and year of the caravan.
